Interesting write-up on Kevin O'Leary from Shark Tank that is making the rounds today. You can read more in the Small Business Journal.
He's a Wine Guy, Too
Okay, this is what really piqued my interest.
I've spent time in the wine business, working for a guy named Cameron Hughes, whose eponymous label does extremely well in Costco. Hughes is a negociant - fancy way of saying he doesn't make the wine, he doesn't grow the grapes, he may blend, but...his business relies on the expertise of others.
My guess is that O'Leary does the same thing, focusing on finding growers and winemakers who will make the stuff for him.
One of the kickers here: Ontario, and specifically the Niagara region, makes some outstanding wine. I've spent time there too. It's a treat, especially this time of year.
Worth watching that video...
One final thing - I run a site called Metasip and we used to cover this whole space rather religiously (until I focused on other things). O'Leary's wines might be right in that site's sweet spot. Just have to get a few over the border...
