Heart of the Desert: Wines

in wine •  6 years ago

Last week I posted about Heart of the Desert, a pistachio ranch that does double duty as a vineyard. We encountered this place as a pleasant surprise while travelling from Alamogordo back to Albuquerque. On top of being home to one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met, this ranch is also the birthplace of some amazing wines.

A few of their wines were so unique, I had never tasted anything quite like them before. They offer a pistachio rosé, their signature wine. Which on top of having a home grown white zinfandel and chenin blanc, also has pistachio extract, adding a lovely nutty note to the wine. Another one of their wines tasted as creamy and sweet as cream soda. I prefer my wine to be a little bit more dry, and a lot more red, so the bottle I brought home with me, was their merlot.

You can check out all of the wines they offer here. And if you are ever in the area, I highly suggest a visit. Not only is the ranch a beautiful place, every single person we encountered there was so pleasant and joyful, from the owner, to the customers, to the lady offering wine tastings, and of course Sam, the dog.
