Art + Wine = A perfect blend.

Start the trail just south of St. Helena at Hall Vineyards. This is one of two Napa wineries owned by the Hall Family and home to an eclectic sculpture display within gardens that surround the tasting room. This historic property was built in 1885 and served as primary wine making facility for many Napa growers in the last century.

From Hall, continue south on Highway 29 and cross the valley at Rutherford Road. Mumm is a few minutes south of your turn on the Silverado Trail at the valley's mid section. This winery houses a rotating gallery that showcases work of renowned international and local photographers throughout the year. After a taste of refreshing sparkling wine and re-invigorating views of the valley floor continue south until you reach the Yountville Cross Road.

Make a right and travel west until you reach a well-preserved old stone structure at the north end of town. Ma(i)sonry is a multi-winery tasting room that promotes itself as a place where people come to be inspired by all things aesthetic. The experience includes art, retail and wine within a beautifully restored 19th century building and adjacent courtyard. To further enhance your Yountville art experience, walk across the street to Jessup Cellars and view their rotating display of paintings, drawings and sculpture.

Head back toward Highway 29 and travel south to the Redwood/Trancas exit. Make a right and follow Redwood four and a half miles up the gentle mountain grade until you reach The Hess Collection. We describe this stop as an art gallery + winery because the collection is substantive and often shadows the wine poured. Donald Hess began to collect in 1966 and limits his focus to twenty living artists whose work he faithfully supports long term. Impressive.

I like how you can go from one to the other that would be nice to do if someone who's really big into wines. Looks like a good time :)

You don't need to be 'really big' into wines to enjoy these day trips because they're multi dimensional experiences. Each winery has a unique story to tell and express themselves in very different ways. Napa receives about 3.5 million visitors annually and many come without a plan. Make the most of your trip by planning ahead! Thanks for your interest.
