Are you predisposed to liking certain wines? According to the Chicago Tribune, a group of doctors-turned-entrepreneurs started a company called Vinome are applying DNA analysis to discover what you'll like and dislike in food and drink.
Vinome customers send in their saliva samples for DNA testing and will receive a report with wine recommendations.
So maybe you didn't know that you were a red wine lover with a knack for rich, jammy wines and a palate that appreciates cherry and earthy flavors?
But some are skeptical about this testing and approach. Eric Topol from the Scripps Research Institute says, “Such tests are bogus, without any science to back them up.”
Regardless if the DNA testing approach is accurate or not, nothing will replace the joy of tasting new wines from around the world. Wine lovers like tastings for great wines but also the experience of meeting new friends and camaraderie.
