layer up those redundancies, winter is a coming, online and off!

in winter •  5 years ago

Additional heaters, additional vpns, additional bank accounts, crypto backups, stores of value, chickpeas, rice and flour en masse. Heating, security and all those things combined, a backup for the backup, treat your day to day life like enterprise backups, go three levels deep with that shit.

I guess maybe I just notice it more when I see stories about climate change and fires, a country that tries to leave an agreement and they still can’t do it for three years and it drags over into another year, at some point the balance of all that stuff just destroys people who are trying to at least survive, I guess what they say is true, only the toughest make it.

It seems that part of the way to do that is to sell out on your ethics, be a yes person and ‘sell other people down the river’ to stay ahead. I’ve never been that way inclined so I prefer to keep myself to myself and just survive on the scraps like some out of time, out of sync son of riddick — dark colours always suited me anyway.

You can feel the chill in the air here in the uk at the moment, the temps are changing, the heaters are doing double time, the gas one might get pulled out and it’s certainly time to invest in some oil heater backups for that low hum, feel good all encompassing heat like a hug from baymax — in fact, why don’t they sell a heater that looks like him, they would sell a bunch.

Also really need to level up on the dark out curtains, shore up some spaces where it’s straight cold coming in and escaping and bring out the winter wear, before you know it the crispy mornings will turn to crunching snow underfoot and everything will have 20% more difficulty on it, like jumping into normal settings of your favourite DS game.

We put so much reliance into things just working out the way we want, it’s something that I constantly try to be aware of, adapting my relationship to it at all times, making sure that backups are done, restores are easy to do, migrations and pull downs easier, optimised. I do get enjoyment from that, a level of peace and time security.

But as climate change has shown us recently, repeatable, it does not matter how many trees you plant if the winds of change decide to waft and stoke the fires, things can be wiped away in an instant, the notion of home for me is always one that has a semblance of a roof and heat, that’s enough.

I kinda wish I had a bigger store, better transportation, more resources to start loading things up, paying ahead to take time to formulate better but like many it’s often hand to mouth, many have it much worse I know, I feel for them too, it’s a constant battle before the right and the just and the need and the want.
