The Epistle of James teaches us about two wisdoms, one heavenly and one worldly:
"Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such ´wisdom´ does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness." James 3:13-18
From the point of view of Aristotle's metaphysics, wisdom is only one, the science of truth, the substance, and the ultimate and first causes. Thomas Aquinas about wisdom, teach us in his book Summa Theologiae, that God is the wisdom itself, talk about wisdom is talk about God. In God the theologian continues, wisdom is both his substance and his essence. Wisdom is the essence of God, because wisdom is his distinguishing characteristic, but is also his substance because wisdom describes God.
Thomas Aquinas also defines the Word of God as "engendered wisdom"; this is so because wisdom has two sources, one the divine inspiration (Word of God) and the other experience. This is why the Bible tells us of two wisdoms, one human and the other divine.
We cannot speak of demonic wisdom in the bible, because it is a contradiction by definition. But it is very probable that apostle James in James 3:15 is referring in a metaphorical way to the sophistry. The sophistry was described many times by Plato in his books, and it was widespread in the ancient world. Sophistry is a knowledge system with the appearance of wisdom but it is not, sophistry is false knowledge. James is calling the "sophistry" as demonic wisdom.
