Bible wisdom: God overturns the thrones of the proud and enthrones the lowly in their place. Ben Sira 10:14

The Bible in its wisdom teaches us that wealth and power can bring a great evil, and that is pride. There are many teachings regarding this, for example: "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall" Proverbs 16:18.
Riches and power are apparent goods and those who passionately place their trust in them, believing themselves the lie of their own superiority, are destined to fail sooner or later. The excess self-confidence can lead people to the worst decisions. Passions like pride and vanity are passions that betray a man.
The Bible is full of cases like these, that is why the sacred scriptures continually instruct us in two very important spiritual gifts to avoid the low passions, and these gifts are the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, and stability) and the humility of heart. When Lord Jesus mentioned these spiritual gifts in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus defined them as the prelude to the Kingdom of Heaven.
The Bible expresses all these teachings to us, in another spiritual principle, God, in his wisdom and righteousness, as well as exalts some also humiliates others: "God overturns the thrones of the proud and enthrones the lowly in their place" Ben Sira 10:14.
In the Bible, this teaching has its correlation with the fall of Saul as king of Israel, and the rise of David as the new king. Saul for his pride and disobedience was rejected, but David for his fear of the Lord was blessed. David was the last of his brothers, but God chose him through the prophet Samuel.
It is for all this that the search for the true goods that are spiritual goods is so necessary, like Solomon who, upon being crowned king of his people, asked for wisdom and humility to govern: "So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong" 1 Kings 3:9.
