The Book of James teaches us how to obtain wisdom from God: "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.", James 1:5-6.
God is perfect and it is God's desire to transmit his perfections, his qualities, his gifts to men: "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect", Matthew 5:48. But for this to happen, men must heartily desire God's perfections: "Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.", Jeremiah 29:11-13.
James adds that we must ask without doubting, that is, we must ask for wisdom with fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, stability), the bible remembers us: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of the wisdom", Proverbs 1:7.
He who doubts adds, is like the waves of the sea, that is to say, he who doubts in the background is an inconstant person, and inconstancy is one of the great problems of spirituality. The fear of God is the good soil of faith, as the parable of the sower explains, the teaching of the word cannot germinate without this spiritual gift: "God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.", Acts 10:34-35.
The fear of God is the basis for both faith and the ability to gain wisdom. The bible gives us a very clear example of this, King Solomon obtains wisdom and wealth from God, but the Providence puts him in a dilemma: "If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.", 1 Chronicles 28:9.
God gives us the wisdom to be like him: "In all things God works for the good of those who love him", Romans 8:28.
