1. Accomplished the past week:
- SBD Price feed: Witnesses have been moving their bias variable to the 'base' section of the price feed, so that it's easy to show what one's rate is. I did the same when I realized the trick. I also asked @jesta to also note the % bias on https://steemdb.com/witnesses. So now you can see for example that my bias this week is set to 13%.
- My bias is still high for the same reasons as last week -- not much movement closing the SBD peg, and we still have too much SBD in the system, causing an 'unfriendly' payout in a mix of steem, steem power, and sbd. @clayop had an excellent post on the current effect of the price feed discount on the market. I still however believe that we need a temporary large discount in order to remove the overload of SBD from the economy. Yes, this can potentially cause more selling pressure on steem, however I don't believe it is as significant compared to all the whales currently selling.
- For @cheetah, I softened the message (again) and also differentiated a same-author repost from a web catch.
- Still working out what to do about 'series' posts and 'reposts'. There is a big difference in my mind which is acceptable and which is not.
- I changed the community reward payout system this last week for @steemcleaners to be in VESTS.
- Members of steemcleaners are still rewarded in SBD, mostly due to reasons of operational costs of internal servers, bots, websites, etc.
- Some people are not happy with this change. Tough luck! Hopefully it will encourage 'thinking long-term' behaviour.
- I have started getting involved in the golos project.
- One thing to see is if I am able to get cheetah running in a different language! However, it would require a russian speaker to actually manage it.
- We killed the test network! I got @abit to come and help, where we found the source of an integer overflow due to the initial distribution of VEST funds. He mentions this in his update, here.
- As usual, I participated as a @steemcleaners member to help fight abuse. Here's part one of last weeks report.
2. Upcoming projects/goals:
- I will likely focus some attention on golos for a little while, as they are just getting bootstrapped. Hopefully we only break the test network, and not the real one. :)
- I have a few ideas in mind for @cheetah on how to allow 'series' posts and differentiate it from 'reposts'. I need to flesh it out before integrating it though.
3. Thoughts from the past week:
This week was a bit quieter than last. I've had some fun toying with the golos test network, which is currently broken. :) I see it as even more of an experiment than steem, but it has the ability to be very sucessful if done right. And if it's successful, then steem will get a boost as well! So I hope to contribute as much as I can, despite the language barrier for me.
The new registration system for an account is now in place, with SMS validation. I am very, very happy that this change is finally out, as I believe it will be much harder for users to abusively create accounts. This might mean that we can finally do some damage to the hundreds of users that freely and easily created new accounts once they got caught plagiarizing. Maybe this means that reputation will finally matter?
I can only hope that steemit took care of burner numbers...
4. Plans/usage of witness funding:
100% of my power down each week has been sent to @steemcleaners. This also includes my own SP, from my own post rewards and curation rewards. I intend to continue this while I am a top19 witness. When you vote for witnesses, I encourage you to think about what each witness is using their funding for! I give a special shout out this week to @liondani (newly in the top 19) for the continued support to the steemfest travel reimbursement fund. Check the transfer history!
Don't forget, you can also support @steemcleaners by upvoting the posts that our @steemcleaners account makes. All rewards (including my witness funding) are distributed back to the community. Read about how steemcleaners does this, here.
Thank you for the updates and your continued hard work. I've had you voted as a witness for a while because of your dedication to keeping the community clean.
I personally think payouts from ALL team curations and community monitoring rewards should be paid in vests. It should weed out the organic, true curators and community-oriented users from the bounty hunters.

Thanks for the update, @anyx! I've been thinking about the whole repost thing too, as I'm awfully conflicted about it.
On the one hand, if you're reposting your own work from an off-platform source, it's not like it's plagiarism - though the fact that the content is out there somewhere else is kind of problematic. If you're revisiting an old blog post and you've updated it and expanded upon it that's one thing, but simply copy-pasting doesn't really take that much effort. At the same time, you invested initial effort in its original creation, so it's a bit murky.
On the other hand, if someone is reposting content that had at one point been posted on Steemit already, it's more of a case of double-dipping than anything else. I understand the impetus to give a poor-performing post a "second chance" by reposting it once more after the 30-day window closes, but it seems disingenuous to me. What are your thoughts?

The issue of double-dipping is an interesting one to me, since it's at least partially a consequence of the 30-day payout limit and (possibly even more so) the 1-day curation rewards cutoff. If curation rewards were paid after a post's initial payout, there would be an explicit incentive for people to go hunting for lost posts.

Reposting an old blog, IMHO, is simply a bad idea - period. In academics, it is considered self-plagiarism if you use the body of your previously written pieces without citation. I've got a bunch of quality posts that didn't make a penny when I first started writing here. Sure, I've been tempted to repost, but never have because it is, as you've mentioned, "double dipping".
I have taken a few of my off-site content and published on Steemit - but I have also clearly stated that it was reposted and the link to the original article.
If you do a Google search, you will see that Steemit articles are being listed. The bots recognize key words, headers, photo ALT text, and backlinks. These things help a writer because Google search will (eventually) recognize you as an authority on the subject and bump you higher in the search engine.
That being said, to simply copy and paste, even if it's off-platform can have a detrimental effect.
My suggestion is to write a new post and backlink to the archived ones using appropriate tags.
And @anyx, speaking of tags - maybe if the people running contests and series posts used a specific tag - something that the general public wouldn't have a reason to use regularly... like "sequence", cheetah could then ignore that post. I would recommend spot checking to make sure it's on the up and up, but certainly not every single time. :)

"Self Plagiarism" is an interesting idea.. and one that is going to have a different answer on whether or not it is acceptable or kosher, depending on whom you talk to.
I see a lot of bloggers and authors just copy pasting their posts from YEARS ago, and acting like they deserve a reward. I also see people reposting their steemit posts, and when I ask why, they say (and I quote) "they made next to no money the first time, being that almost nobody saw them."
It's a tragic situation where people get greedy, and have the mentality that they deserve a reward. I wish we could transition towards original content, but it just seems like people are now running out of ideas but still want to be rewarded.
I don't know what to do, to be honest.

I'll be honest - I've had plenty of posts that have earned nothing. That doesn't seem like it justifies trying again with duplicate content. Your content had its chance to rise and/or fall on its own merits; using excuses like "I didn't have as many followers then" or "there are a lot more users now" or something similar seems like petty rationalization to me.
It does seem motivated by greed, and that's a shame. Yes, let's be honest here, part of the allure of Steemit is the opportunity to earn rewards for your content, but making that your primary motivator for posting here sends the wrong message.

Hi anyx, I am just now reading about how the cheetah bot works as it has been commenting on some of my posts randomly. I understand why it captures my posts, but I would like to be added to a whitelist. My product listings have copy text for the descriptions that is used, but if you see posts for my store that are just that, for a store, so not copying blog content, and in fact all images of comics used are originals taken and all can be bought for crypto currency. Any help in how I can just get the blog added to a whitelist to stop the comments, thank you it is appreciated.

@on0tole said to me a week ago that Golos developers are already programming something Cheetah-like. Maybe you can discuss your ideas about Cheetah with them.
I can be a member of "Goloscleaners" and monitor&log what Cheetah finds. 😂

It took me a lot of time to translate parts of it. It think it is very unfair of you!

If you are going to flag a post I think you should at least comment as to why. People who really care about steemit would appreciate the feedback. A flag without feedback leaves one feeling apoplectic.
