Apparently, We Have Consensus For HardFork 20

in witness-category •  6 years ago

At the moment of writing (meaning with about 2 days before the scheduled date for HF 20), the top 21 witnesses have reached a super-majority, as you can see from this screenshot:

There are only 2 witnesses not yet on 0.20.2 (the latest steemd version), but knowing them for so long, I believe they are probably just replaying the blockchain right now and try to make sure there won't be any problems.

So, although we are seeing top 21 witnesses using the latest version it doesn't mean we running the latest version right now. The modification will be enforced on Tuesday, 25 September 2018 15:00:00 UTC (11:00:00 EDT).

Please be aware that some stuff will change on the blockchain, especially what we are now calling "bandwidth". It will be replaced by the new Resource Credit mechanism. I would suggest to keep an eye on the platform around the hardfork date and look out for potential mishaps.

I'm still traveling at the moment, but if I find some free time, I will try to make a more detailed post about what we can expect once HF 20 will be enforced.

Until then, let's enjoy the consensus. That's how all good things start: with consensus that we're all going in the same direction.

Wanna know when you're getting paid?

I know the feeling. That's why I created steem.supply, an easy to use and accurate tool for calculating your Steemit rewards

It's free to use, but if you think this is a useful addition, I'd appreciate your witness vote.

Thank you!

Great to see such a big consensus on top witnesses.

So the supermajority is running the hardfork 20 program but not running the hardfork 20. Uh huh lol

Yes. That's exactly how it is. Because the hardfork is set to happen, if there is a supermajority running the program on September 25th. Are you familiar with the concept of scheduling?

HF 20 has full support time for some big revolution in steem blockchain :)

Congrats to all...Like I said HF 20 is a go.

Good to hear they seem happy to go ahead with this. I expect Roeland is busy with Steemfest, but a witnesses work is never done :) It's time to move on and take the next step.

That's exciting! We've been waiting for this for a while. First HF20, then Hivemind and SMTs.

Have safe travels!

This shows how willing witnesses are to embrace new change.

After replaying multiple times in the past week or so, hopefully the last in a while.

I hope the hardwork 2.0 will bring some positive innovation into the steemit platform

So everything goes as planned...are there going to be any dysfunctions during the transition?

hopefully not

Letting for letting us know about this information about witnesses.
Do you know why bittrex and binance have closed steem deposit and withdrawl?

Because steem's price will be tested during the HF20 and they don't want any surprises...

PS I was just wandering since I think you are commenting very often in many posts, how come you NEVER upvote anything?

As far as the upvoting concern I have taken sp on lease and i am selling upvotes through the smart steem, and in the days of dip, it's difficult to make even the amount you paid for lease.

your honesty is appreciated

@sorin.cristescu Thank you so much, i appreciate it :)
Have a good day.

I can show you many coins that are being manipulated on these exchanges, Why they haven't Closed them?

Regarding deposits: from a technical point of view, you need t replay / reindex the entire Steem blockchain for this upgrade, and this may take days. My hunch is that they simply suspended deposits until they are sure the upgrade is going well. Nothing about the price, IMHO.

Binance was having a steem wallet maintenance which lasted almost a whole month roughly 1,5 / 2 months back...and there was not any HF at that time...just saying

Hopefully, these two witnesses will also update their system.

Self voting will also be disabled?

I don't think so.

Self voting for first 15min after posting....

Source?

You'll still be able to self-vote. However, the curation portion of whatever votes occur within the first 15 minutes will be returned to the rewards pool on a reverse auction basis. So if you vote (or self-vote) on a post at minute 0, 100% of that curation will be returned to the reward pool. If you vote at minute 8, approximately half of the curation reward will be returned to the reward pool. So in essence, if you have people who are voting on your posts early, it could be killing the curation for everyone else who follows. Depends on the size of their vote though.

only the self-voting curation is returned. if other people upvote you in the first 15 minutes it works the same as before (only the time window is slashed in half from 30 to 15 minutes).
Or at least this is what I understood

I hadn't heard there was a distinction between votes and self-votes. Thanks for the info though. Unless we helped develop the HF, I think most all of us are still trying to figure things out. :)

Seems too complicated to understand.

Cant recall exactly...May be you should search steemit.blog for details about HF20...
I read some time ago...that self vote for 15 min after posting will be added to steem reward pool...@null
