Our mainstream users want to buy STEEMPOWER with Credit-Cards instead of Bitcoin. And in all honesty, I am pretty sure that will happen soon, @roelandp even jumped on that idea and promised to help in that department and make a working model where that feature can be implemented.
But - we have too little liquid steem - so we need STEEMPOWER to be bought and sold as well
It is brilliant really, to move SteemPower from one account to another account without disrupting the power-down or inflate the system. Because the fact of the matter is that some people do want to power up, while others might to power down for a while and having an internal marketplace for exactly that would make it so much easier for large SP holders to accommodate the DEMAND for smaller or larger SP-purchases without having to power down themselves.
So Catherine place an order for $50,000 worth of SteemPower, and if you want to sell to her, you can
Now Catherine is pleased to have a voice on Steemit, and becomes a seen top-blogger that we all adore and want to upvote because she is so fantastic!
Then Janet place an order for $100,000 worth of SP, and so does Jessica
And we love Jessica but Janet - well, Janet sucks, and no matter how hard she try - she just won´t make it because she does not have the talent or the patience to gather an audience, so she gives up - and sell her SteemPower to someone else who are ready with a shiny fresh Credit Card to go full STEEM AHEAD :)
Completely agree, some people even have a "problem" with bitcoin for whatever reason and don't associate well with it. Basically they won't touch it with a 10 ft pole.
So being able to use a credit card to directly connect to buying steempower would help connect with all of "those people" would be an amazing implementation into steemit. Would definitely broaden the audience.

I thought that the problem was an excess of liquid Steem, which is pushing the price down. I may be misunderstanding the situation. I can see that the main Steemit account is pushing Steem to Steemit2, which is distributing some to various users. They also just sold 350k Steem. If people start trading SP then would that affect the price too? I thought the idea of locking it away was to reduce speculation.
I'll keep powering up what I earn for now, I still believe in the potential of this site.

There is not much liquid steem at all. If you are looking to power up your account with say 100,000 SteemPower you would create quite a price-spike to get that amount or you would have to scalp for as long time as it would take to get that amount of STEEM to power up with.

So it's a cool idea, but I don't think it will work - assuming I am understanding you correctly..
If you let users sell their locked up SP to other users, then it bypasses the liquid STEEM market. Why would users power down if they could just sell directly out of their SP account whenever they wanted to. It would essentially turn the entire non-liquid SP account into a liquid asset, which would be the same as regular STEEM.
There should always be a significant amount of liquid STEEM in circulation. A short supply would drive up the price. If the price got high enough, you would see more power-downs and cash outs, which would increase the supply. Basically the market should take care of the amount of liquid STEEM needed without having to liquefy SP too.
The idea of being able to buy STEEM using a CC (and power up directly if the user wanted to) however is a great idea! This would really make a big difference towards Steemit going mainstream!

Yes this is the problem, making steem power or vests actually because steem power isn't really a thing, would break our economic model. Thank you @timcliff.

It's a good idea. If SP can be bought by a credit card and freely traded between users then it will really become worth investing in. Perhaps it should be taken even a step further. The average person doesn't know much about cryptocurrencies and the economy of Steemit might seem confusing. And without the 'average social media user' Steemit will never become big. So direct USD/EURO to Steem and Steem to USD/EURO conversions should be allowed on the platform itself, with the appropriate fee.

Great Idea! @frystikken It will definitely help steem to retain its value.

This would be such a great feature, as many people read my recent article on the hassle of buying bitcoin to purchase Steem. There is a lot of costs involved prior to being able to put newly acquired Bitcoin into the system.

Absolutely!
Buy + Sell + Borrow Steem Power
Your claim is to be a new economic system but don't provide just basics of any most primitive economic system

As far as the answer to this...I don't care either way. But how would all of us privately trading STEEM affect the trading volume and price fluctuating because of it? A part of me hopes it would fly under the radar and have no affect and not change the price either way. Beat the system and let the speculators suck it :)

Great idea, and each transaction should burn some of the sellers SP too. Similar to what the Convert to Steem option was supposed to do. Even a 25% transfer fee that just gets burned might do the price some good.

Sorry Fyrst but what prevents poloniex from using their account to power up and then sell steem power on external markets as well? That is exactly what happened with SBD (steem backed dollars) and look how well that went.

Poloniex and Bittrex don´t have much steempower. They cannot touch users-funds to power up, that would be defrauding and subject to legal actions.

would also like to add that Bittrex, Poloniex and Steemit Inc. are all American (USA) companies, so those legal actions against an exchange that would do such a thing could be very costly and I am 100% sure that neither @bittrex nor @poloniex would ruin their reputation and business doing such a thing. :)
