Hello Steemians, it's another episode of my interview in which I get to ask some technical Steem questions and also bring you closer to your witnesses. For this episode's interview, I have the pleasure of bringing to you @jackmiller, a steemian who has a great passion for the Steem blockchain, a steemian who works tirelessly at the witness level by supporting various communities, as well a reputable witness. This episode promises to be educating, and interesting . Be sure to sit tight and grab a cup of coffee while reading through this great interview.
Meet @jackmiller!
@jamesmovic - Who introduced you to steemit and what was your motive for joining?
@jackmiller - Well, I wasn't “introduced” to Steem or Steemit, I came across it during my constant researching the net and looking for new things. I actually spent a couple of months just looking at the site Steemit.com and reading posts prior to actually registering. My account was approved on the 13th of June last year, so I recently celebrated my first Steemian birthday.
@jamesmovic - How many times do you think its appropriate for a newbie to post per day?
@jackmiller - It is up to the person, many of us, and I speak from my own experiences here, go through a transition from what we were used to on other platforms, like for example Twitter or lets say Facebook, to what Steemit.com is. Now we have Dlive, Dtube, Busy.org, Steepshot.io and other front ends that have diversified the options to people wanting to become Steemians. Which is fantastic, so if we take that into account, there is actually no stopping anyone from applying their usual patterns of behaviour from other Social Networks and applying them here now, as many people are vloggers, photobloggers, bloggers and with the new initiative of ulogging, weve pretty much covered a great deal of the diversity make social networking tick!
@jamesnovic - What communities are you supporting and how?
@jackmiller - Right now, I am a member of a number of communities, but the ones where I guess most of my thoughts revolve around are @teamaustralia, after all, I am Australian! Then there are my brothers and sisters in the Veterans on Steem community and @steemchurch. These are the communities which in many ways are the ones which I often think about when thinking about “What can I do to make something better?”.
I believe in the idea of our communities becoming independent. What I mean by that is, that the members join their efforts and assets to ensure that all the active members advance and that financial freedom is ensured. I seriously hate it when I notice people “hoping to get a Whale vote”. I say, “LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN FOR ALL OF US” so that we dont have to “hope” for some “mercy”. Independence is the key to the future of all our communities out there.
For this to happen, we need to invest a lot of time and energy into the community building aspects of it all and likewise the networking side of things too, as members are all interlinked and sharing of information and knowhow is what shall make a world of difference in the long run for everyone.
@jamesnovic - Can you tell us why you decided to become a witness?
@jackmiller - I believe that my approach and my approach to life, always looking at the long term vision and not overwhelming myself and others with the little “trending” issues that can be fixed with a click of the fingers is something that shall affect the way many Steemians approach their way of doing business here.
I have to admit, in my case, with all the ideas and energy that I have as far as Steem goes, it was a step that I obviously needed to take, otherwise I probably would have been still sitting back and watching things rather than actually going out, investing my time and money to add to our endeavour. This move actually gave me the confidence that I was lacking. I guess we are all different. So I can only speak for myself.
@jamesnovic - Can you tell us how your feel about it (witnessing) now?
@jackmiller - Its a challenge and I LOVE CHALLENGES! I dont necessarily see myself as a top20 witness, but what I can see is that I can work my way up to a top50 witness and then actually have an influence in my lobbying for what Steemians want. It is rather frustrating as a witness under the top50 level, as it seems at times that no matter how many hours a day I spend on trying to lobby for what Steemians want, it still isnt considered to be “as important” because Im not in the top50. This is again, just one of the impressions I have based on the last four months of experiences in my daily communications with fellow witnesses and Steemians. So, its not just me who feels that this is the case. Again, it is a challenge and with all the support Ive gotten to date, I really have to admit that I am going to continue on doing my best to ensure the voices of all us Steemians gets relayed and taken seriously by those who have the responsibility to make things happen!
@jamesmovic - What exactly does "voting for a witness" means to you and do you think it is necessary for all Steemians to vote?
@jackmiller - Voting for Witnesses is in many ways voting for representatives. I dare say we could go as far as to say that it can be compared to “politics” but that can lead people to misunderstand the role of witnesses here.
We are a “social networking” endeavour. So, ALL the aspects of society need to be covered by our witnesses. Many claim that witnesses have to be all tech savvy, sure, there is some truth to that, but there is the cold hard fact that all the tech services are on the free market and can be procured. Likewise, many of us have partners, some witnesses are a team of people, some like me have tactical partners who are PAID EXPERTS in their fields. Why do I at this stage prefer this approach? You may ask. Well, I get what I pay for, there is a legally binding business agreement there and it guarantees that the service shall be delivered, rather than me multitasking and pretending/faking to the public how I can do everything on my own.
Lets not forget, for every good business endeavour to work, each department within the business needs to respect the other interdepartmental needs/requirements and roles. We cant afford to ignore any of them in our case as we are building a “SOCIAL NETWORK” which is a diverse range of peoples, cultures and requirements. So, to all those that constantly try to convince people that witnesses must be exclusively made up of one branch of people out there, all I can say is “boo hoo, go suck on a rotten egg!”
@jamesnovic - What are your thoughts on the possibility of there being a new "Steem 2"?
@jackmiller - It isnt a possibility, there shall be a “Steemit 2” (talking about the front end here). Dan Larimer has already announced it and there is obviously a lot of rivalry going on between Dan and our guy Ned.
As a Steemian, I am definitely on Neds team here, as Ned is Steem, he is Steemit, he is the man representing our best interests as Steemians. We need to stick by him in every aspect of our best interests.
Now that may sound a little radical, well, I wont be one of those who agrees to everything Ned suggests, just because Ned said it, but when it comes to topics which I see as being of importance to Steem and sticking by our team here vs those who are working for Dans EOS, I will definitely be keeping in mind only the best interests of Steem and Steemians.
As for other witnesses out there, I wont be judgemental if we dont necessarily agree on this, but I would prefer it if our Steem witnesses would openly tell us if they are working both for EOS and Steem. Rather than any of us finding it out from someone else.
Likewise, my view is rather simple: How can you give your 100% devotion to making Steem the greatest endeavour in the history of mankind if you are trying to do the same thing for EOS?
Maybe a witness which is a team of people can do this, I can see that as a realistic option, but I cant see it being the case for an individual.
In the business side of things there, I do have many concerns. Dan and his EOS have a complete list of all our Steem partners and business connections, what in the good old days would be referred to as “Dan has our rolodex”. Unfortunately, if I am not mistaken Dans company is registered in some offshore zone, not sure which little island and where exactly, so it doesnt fall under US laws, so I feel that in some ways we cant depend on the judicial system to protect us from all the potential actions which would be covered if Dans company was registered in the USA. However, we are and that just adds a lot more security to all of us Steemians, no “shady business practices” can happen on our blockchain!
As per the “competition” side of things, sure, competition is a good thing, why not. Busy.org is already a competitive front end to Steemit.com and we live side-by-side and many of us Steemians use both. But when we use Busy.org we are building OUR BLOCKCHAIN and investing in OUR BUSINESS.
Those who use the EOS sites, well, they wont be building the future of Steem or Steemians, it really is as simple as that.
@jamesnovic - Is there anything you would like to say on your own, without me asking the question?
@jackmiller - Yeah, there is something that I would like to say.
Steem has changed my life.
I am now a 100% loyal Steemian and I am ohhhh so grateful to EVERYONE who has helped me along the way.
THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart, from the most intimate part of my being, I wish to say THANK YOU.
@jamesmovic - Any advice you would wish to give to my fellow Steemians [newbies] who are feeling dejected one way or the other due to low upvotes?
@jackmiller - There is no “small vote” EVERY VOTE IS A VOTE!
Remember, nothing happens overnight, “Rome wasnt built in a day”, no business gets built over night. Most businesses take 2 to 5 years to become independent and standing firm on their own two feet. So, look at it that way and you shall see how every time you invest into your work here it is slowly building a path towards your future. This isnt a free bus ride, this is in every essence of the term “a business endeavour”. What you did for others in the past on other social networks, you are now doing for yourself. You used to make other people rich with all your time and effort on other social networks, now if you invest that same amount of time and effort here you shall see results! Simple as that.
Believe in yourself, understand that you are now making it happen for YOU and not some crazy egomaniac multibillionaire on some other social network and that everything you do here is a step closer towards the goal of achieving what you could never achieve on any other platform to date.
@jamesmovic - What impression do you have about this interview and what do you feel about it?
@jackmiller - Its great mate.
I love the way you are approaching witnesses from all the levels, not just looking for the top20 or top50.
It feels great to know how you see us “little people” as people, as equal human beings who are trying to make a real difference here and help make Steem go to the moon.
So, hats off to you. Keep up this fantastic approach and thanks for treating me equally to all the others out there. It really does say a lot about you and your sincere intentions.
@jamesmovic - Lol...thanks for your time and thanks for honoring my invitation

Another great interview. Jack always brings up great points, particularly around this Steemit 2 crap, which I think we all share. Definitely a great witness to vote for, which is why he had my vote from the start.
