This post set a new (personal) record of 4x "transaction error," then being eaten 3x before successful submission! Thanks, Obama Steemit!
JerryBanfield is, to purloin a Steemit appellation, a minor “super-hero” of internet marketing. Despite his status as a relative newcomer to Steemit (4.5 months), he has accrued over 16,000 followers and is one of the top authors, measured by recent payouts, comments, and views.
Jerry’s primary audience comes from YouTube, where he sports over 200,000 subscribers, and Facebook, where Jerry remains locked in an epic struggle for Facebook dominance with the venerable Jerry Springer. Mr. Springer currently eclipses Mr. Banfield in likes by less than 5% (<100,000), and I would say the trend is certainly intact for an eventual “Jerry-flippening”... unless Springer has a new project of some sort in the works!
Almost unique in his willingness to reveal personal or embarrassing information, Jerry’s enthusiasm practically jumps off the screen in each of his videos. Seriously - Jerry makes things public record in his videos far more than any of us would probably be willing to do. If there’s something you want to learn about Jerry, it’s probably available on YouTube somewhere. "TMI" determinations shall be left up to the viewer.
No stranger to criticism, Jerry has his share of detractors. His attempt to create an ill-advised and over-priced Steemit account creation service went over in the community only slightly better than a lead balloon, with many convinced of ill intent. In the past, he has received criticism for selling guides on setting up a Steemit witness, “pumping” Dash, and the typically erudite critique one can expect from the YouTube comments.
Unfairly, Jerry has also received criticism in the past simply for stating the facts when the facts were uncomfortable. His post “Meet Steem’s #1 Author”, discussing @mindhunter and @tamim, was painted as a series of personal attacks, despite a relatively unbiased, factual, and even arguably respectful take. When he (not unlike yours truly) pointed out the insane APR available from self-voting shortly after Hard Fork 19, he was also attacked for merely pointing out the existent math. (Luckily, I dodged that bullet...thanks for taking one for the team, Jerry!)
Whatever one might think of Jerry personally, he has made what is to-date the only (as far as this author knows) permanent pledge of returning witness rewards to the Steemit community via advertising. Not only has he pledged 100% of rewards back to the community as an advertising budget, he has provided an outline for tracking accountability linked below. Given I estimate Jerry’s current server costs at around $300/month, that ultimately represents him taking a loss to make a community contribution.
This pledge alone, if upheld, is enough to ensure this author of Jerry’s good intentions for the community. Since there are no “witness terms”, Jerry has no motive to lie on this point because he would be instantly voted back out if he renigged. It is difficult to accuse a witness who is already making substantial post rewards of greed when they would probably be making more profit if they simply stopped witnessing and posted more.
Jerry also operates via Twitter and his own video teaching platform, https://u.jerrybanfield.com , however he has temporarily forsaken most of his other work to focus his full efforts on marketing and creating content for the Steemit platform.
Jerry has written numerous guides for Steemit targeted at users of all levels of savviness. Honestly, there are too many to list here - everything from how to transfer funds in and out of exchanges and Steemit to how to maximize Steemit posting or curation rewards. There is a new guide almost every few days. He is also responsible for suggesting this collaboration with yours truly (@Lexiconical), and in fact, informing me of Steemit to begin with via YouTube video.
Jerry also likes to pust general use guides on non-Steemit topics, mostly of the computer-skill or advertising-related variety. He posts regularly on a variety of "potpourri" topics, including peanut butter and oatmeal.
Jerry was responsible for organizing the first-known Florida Steemit meetup, personally footing the bill and handling the organization for same.
Jerry, like several other witnesses, employs @Someguy123 to assist with technical witness management. Jerry also runs a backup node and pre-pays his server rental out one-quarter.
Jerry has quickly risen to prominence through the ranks of other purveyors of internet positivity and at-home entrepreneurship opportunities and is proof positive that if you are persistent, you can cobble together something resembling a stable career entirely from your computer screen!
When not working on Steemit, Jerry enjoys sampling raspberry sorbets and participating competitively in dog agility. He also advocates politically for water park subsidies. Jerry swears by his Pontiak Aztek as “the family vehicle of the future”. His external surface is constructed of cooler, sedimentary rock which gives way to igneous flows beneath the mantle. This whole paragraph was nonsense, couldn’t you tell? (A paragraphical-artifact from a once-too-short report.)
Jerry holds 92,000 SP, a portion of which he has delegated to community projects. He is NOT currently powering down, but IS currently leasing via MinnowBooster for his thread on same.
Jerry will be performing a stand-up routine at Steemfest II in Lisbon - so, please, someone tape that for me! If you're there, don't miss it!

I personally think Jerry cops a lot of unwarranted hate. I don't read all his posts, but he does put a a lot of thought and detail into them and all the shit posters could learn a thing or two from him. He seems like a decent enough guy to me and is one of the reasons I'm here since I found all his youtube videos talking up steemit.
Also, thanks for these witness posts, I was looking to fill a couple of spots yesterday to get me up to 30 and they came in very handy. 👍

"I personally think Jerry cops a lot of unwarranted hate. "
Jerry definitely engenders strong feelings, but I know from personal experience that he is a hard worker. He also, from my experience, genuinely attempts to take criticism well and feels bad when others are displeased with him.
I believe his heart is in the right place, and I think donating his witness block rewards is a very genuine way to put that up for "public audit", if you will.
Thanks as always for keeping up with the articles Choo! I'm glad you've found them useful.

I've talked with Jerry before about my disagreements with some of his practices, and I have reservations about the way he conducts business. That being said, what he's doing with advertising for Steemit is worthy of praise and should be acknowledged. I'm glad you mentioned it, because it's no small feat he's accomplishing.
Whatever other disagreements I have with him, this is a solid win for everyone. I'm enjoying the series man! Only 72 more slots to go till I get my day in the sun. XD

You'll be much higher by then, I'm sure!
For example, I'll be voting for you shortly...once I can..."safely politically" remove a vote for a certain person...
DM me if it's not there in a week, because then I've forgotten.
Further, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the witnesses don't get full reports. I have 2 reports on dead witnesses so far, and I'm only into the 40s.

Jerry is a worm but I still upvoted this post because it's a really informational series and everything is presented with a neutral and relatively objective point of view.

@jerrybanfield is the reason I am here on steemit.
Before him I had never heard of steemit.
It only took him four months to reach this level on steemit and I think in a few months he will be known as the "god of steemit".
His teachings are very simple and you understand every bit of his teaching.
Whenever I have to watch a video on cryptocurrency, I first check if jerry has made a video on that.
Apart from that he is a generous person also, he sent me a tip for my post some time ago. He is an inspiration to me and many others.
I have voted him as a witness and I have also added him in my steemvoter account, because he is just awesome..

And if he can get us listed on Binance he'll be an official Steemhero!

Unfortunately, I still really am not getting through on this platform :( Besides Jerry's attention, I did not get all that much support for this idea.. and Jerry only looked because I linked the post in one of his comments! So my upvotes are limited to.. well.. his mostly. In fact the total number of views is a mere 25 on that post...
So any kind of increased traction will probably require another attempt. I guess Jerry should be doing that, since he has the most exposure and probably gets the most result. AFAIK he sent Binance a mail with a request, but it may not be enough: Binance requires a core developer to contact them it says on their website. Let's hope for the best!

I, too, believe that as Steemit gets larger, witness diversity from mostly-technical witnesses to a wider range of skill-sets may be much more beneficial for the community.
We'll have to try it to find out.
