TimCliff Witness Update 2017-10-21

in witness-category •  7 years ago

Hello Everyone!

Here is what I've been up to since my last witness post:

  • A lot of my time has been spent helping the users in the "help" channel of steemit.chat. I make sure to login at least once a day every day and go through every support issue, to ensure that everyone in the channel requesting help gets a response within 24 hours. Thanks also to @drakos and @pfunk for helping too!
  • I continue to post the weekly Reports from the Witnesses series each week, which provides the community with an aggregated report of all the witness reports from the past week.
  • I created a post Steps for setting up a witness node (the manual way) as a guide for new witnesses looking to setup a witness node.
  • I have been trying to start a new #discussion tag to encourage more posts that create lively and engaging discussions. You can read about it here: Hey Steemains - Let's start a #discussion!
  • I was a guest on the mspwaves show hosted by @sircork. The interview was a ton of fun! You can listen to the recording of the show here.
  • I created a post to warn users to save their posts before submitting due to the issues that the website has been having with lost posts.
  • I submitted a condenser pull request to update FAQ content to clarify the stolen account recovery process.
  • I submitted a pull request to condenser to warn users of spam/phishing links in their wallet memos.
  • I submitted a pull request to condenser to update the links that new users see when they view their blog page before it has any posts.

Some Information / Suggestions:

  • Remember to save your posts in a text editor before submitting, in case it fails to successfully submit!
  • In case you haven't heard about it yet, Steemit announced a new project called SMTs. This is very exciting and will likely attract a lot of new big players to the Steem economy. To see a preview for how SMTs might change things, check out this post from @donkeypong.

Forward Looking Plans:

  • Continue to provide support in the help channel of steemit.chat.
  • Continue with the weekly "Reports of the Witnesses" series.
  • I will be heading to #steemfest in about a week! My spouse ( @artist1989 ) and I will be stopping in Germany for a few days before the conference to visit his birth mom. It is our first trip outside the US, and we are both very excited =) We look forward to meeting a lot of you in Lisbon!

Summary of Current Witness Parameters:

  • SBD Interest Rate: Currently the peg seems to be mostly holding close to $1 USD (hovering between $0.95 and $1.05), which is where we want it. There have been some short-term fluctuations outside that range, but they have not lasted for an extended period of time. I continue to have a small amount of interest (1%) to try and help with the occasional dips below $1.
  • Price Discount: Currently the debt level is at 1.5%, and SBD is pegged close to $1 USD. 1.5% is starting to get slightly high, but is still less than 2%. Based on this, I see no need for a price feed discount at this time.
  • Registration Fee: My registration fee is currently set to 0.2 STEEM. This makes it so that a new account costs 6 STEEM (non-delegated), which is about $5.60 USD at current market prices.
  • Maximum Block Size: I currently have my block size set to 65,536. There seem to be no issues related to bandwidth after the 19.1 soft-fork, so I am comfortable with the consensus on this parameter given the current system use.

I welcome feedback if you think there are things that I can be doing better as a witness. If you think I am doing a great job, I would really appreciate your witness vote!

Thanks for the report @timcliff
Concise and clear!

I think the #discussion tag is a great idea and many users seem to embrace it, a great way to build engagement and encourage human exchanges.

And I enjoyed the interview with @sircork, I strongly believe that communicating to the communities is key for the success to the platform.

As witnesses i think we all should try to communicate as much as possible even for those not in the top 20 50 or 100 the communities need to know what we are up to and we need to share that being a witness is much more than maintaining a node.

Lets build the human network :)

Thanks for the update! Have fun at steemfest and Germany is awesome. People there are relatively friendly and have had an awesome time every time I've been.

Fun :) Looking forward to it!

It was an outstanding experience to spend a couple hours chatting with you. I really enjoyed our conversation and the MSP Waves listening audience was enthralled as well.

As you know, I have resigned and left the PAL/MSP group and MSP Waves behind to focus on and form a new worldwide humanitarian aid organization called YouAreHOPE (@youarehope) that is steem/sbd powered and fueled by the love of the Steem ecosystem community of kind and generous people.

I am building a new discord space for YouAreHOPE and a new streaming radio/tv station to support that effort. Naturally, I would love to have you stop by and check it all out as well as potentially joining me again in the future on a new steem information show to be airing there worldwide, beginning in November.

As always, my friend, I will see you around the halls and rooms of this exciting world we share here on the block chain.

Until we meet again, be well.

Yours in Service,

that looks like a great project. I'll follow. If you have it set up as a charity (501C I believe) you can get a 10K/month budget from Google to advertise at no cost to you. That can be a great way to promote steem and your organization at the same time. https://www.google.com/grants/

That is a good tip, but this would be a 503c. IF it were to ever deal in fiat currencies and be based out of the USA, I might pursue that. For now though, it is entirely STEEM/SBD driven and housed on the transparent blockchain. I am not particularly interested in expanding beyond the steem ecosystem at this time, so neither Federal nor Google involvement is warranted nor really desired for now.

I do appreciate the interest though, and hope you will let your steem based friends network know about the organization and encourage spreading the word so we can continue to execute the programs and campaigns running in three countries now, and gather more donations to continue them and expand to other distressed locals throughout the world where people are in desperate need of HOPE and fundamental things like food, clean water, educational supplies, clothing, shoes and so on.

Thank you!

I'll go resteem some of your HOPE posts and will keep you in mind. I'm very interested in coming up with ways to fund projects like this but I'm new blockchain and steem. I'm still learning my way here but hopefully soon will be able to start developing some cool stuff. :-)

Thanks! Take your time getting to know the place and the players. There is a lot going on around the blockchain. Enjoy taking it all in!

@timcliff i would appreciate if a witness could read this and explain what's going on if it's a bug and if it's by design, why?

@timcliff - I really appreciate your witness reports. The amount of work you put in for supporting Steemit users (especially new) is really something! I am glad Steemit has witnesses like you who are so dedicated.

I believe you are at #2 spot and firmly believe that you will go to #1 soon.

Thanks for everything you do for Steemit

Regards,

@vm2904

Thanks. Jesta and I have been switching back and forth for the #1 spot for a few weeks now :)

Welcome sir.

Thx for your great work!

Welcome :)

Thank you Tim for keeping us updated and your remarkable help to the community, as always !

A lot of things you are doing at the same time. Just wonderful. I am following you to get updated about this platform. Great job.

Thanks :)

excellent witness update. impressive work done @timcliff

@resteemia

Thanks for interesting feedback report.

I like the Discussion idea! Thanks for all you do and your continued support of copyright issues!

Hello @timcliff. It's amazing what you are doing. Thanks for helping out and with all these information.

I don't know if this is the right channel but I have a request. I had a conversation with @modernpastor about having a new tag called #snippets for short action posts. Not every user here is used to writing and reading long posts. But the #snippets tag, it will be easy to locate and put short action posts in order. I hope my suggestion makes sense to you.

@learnandteach01

You can use whatever tags you want. The "popular" tags that show up in the main list are based on the activity of the tag.

Oh, thank you. I apologize for my ignorance.

No worries. Happy to help :)

Thank you. 😊

I appreciate how on top of things you are from the community/witness side of things and think you're doing an awesome job.

Your posts also make me feel guilty that I stopped spending time on my updates... :)

Thanks @jesta! Your words mean a lot. You were always (and still are) one of the great witnesses that I look up to, because of how much you do for the community.

I feel bad I'm not doing reports as often as I used to either. I'm at least trying to do one a month though :) Even though I think the main stakeholders know what I am up to, I still like to keep the rest of the community up on what all is going on too :)

Can I get the steemit communities help? I need y accounted nuked for the reason is I am about to loose my job due to a post i made a few months ago. Its nothing negative just I put info that is incorrect and could effect a current project. I know its a weird request but my job and family are on the line if I don't try something here is my account name https://steemit.com/@seanfrederic

Thank you for information
