BuzzSteem Ep. 21 - @bethwheatcraft [Bitcoin's Future, Witnesses and National Singing Day]

in witness •  7 years ago

Hey guys, happy signing - I mean singing day!!

Today I talked about:

  • How dumb I think football is.

  • Thomas Gluckman and his Bitcoin predictions

  • User @riverhead and his resignation from steemit.chat (which is currently shut down until someone else takes his place.)

  • Whether or not rewarding famous people who come to Steemit is fair or smart.

  • Hodling your Steem and investing in SBD

And the Steemian of the day is: @Taskmaster4450. He is awesome, so follow him and resteem him and upvote him damnit!

Alright you beautiful people. I'm outtie. I think I am going to make a stout shake! (It's literally just a full stout beer with some scoops of ice cream and some chocolate on top. It's top notch guys, really.

See you tomorrow!

I laughed so hard and international singing day. Can I just check did you say gaycoin??

I also wanted to add NO!!! its not fair for you tube stars to get sign up bonuses it put us content creators who are working hard to the back of the queue whats the point. I hope whales are not doing this!!! Stop it Whales, researching this for my vlog today. Thanks Beth. Feel a rant coming on.

Thanks! And no I didn't say gaycoin, but dang, there should definitely be a gaycoin haha.

Thank You for a positive view on things,I feel like we are in a dark place right now and maybe they are desperate for higher level vids .
I'm sure they know the (YT)are dual posting maybe looking for a higher saturation of better content that We have??
Don't get me wrong I love this platform but I do think we need a yellow bulb.
Great Post and thank You Beth :)
Toddjr.

I think so too, but I also think that there should be a rhyme or reason for a dtube upvote. I would make my videos a lot better quality if I could be sure of a guaranteed upvote from dtube, but it is hard to justify quality when I only make a few cents.

That being said, some of the stuff that dtube upvotes at the rates they do are astounding. I see so many high quality videos on here go completely unnoticed, but then dtube giving bullshit videos ridiculous chunks of money, $100 upwards.

I started on here doing pretty high quality parodies. I planned to release a video each week of how to make a cosplay, and then using that cosplay in my videos. They literally took me the entire week to make and went completely unnoticed as well, so I had to give them up, as I couldn't justify the cost.

If dtube wants quality videos, that are appropriate for the audience already built in, they need to start encouraging and rewarding makers. Right now it is basically just a wasteland of selfie vlogs and cover songs. Yet the people they are importing from YouTube are like you said, just double posting, so no real new content is ever coming in. It is a mess that's going to take a while to fix.

Yes,we are being fed by wild goats not the crowd funding type(ad driven). From the little time I've been here the winners seem to be mostly strong steemit knowledge base vids. The ones that call out good news or inspiring to the platform.Think of it like Google when bots loved any info,,, Now it has to be dynamic, original and tag related. Now your wealth of information is very Dynamic and original that you offer on your vids. So can you imagine if all the computers can run with this info through out the Web? But it can't because it's a video and once its off of that from page it's done! here is your gold for the day Beth :) Speech to text converter and post it with a new thumbnail and see what happens :) Thats why comments are the gold of this platform,it's all about the text! Your words are important and yes we do Care!
God Bless
Toddjr.

You said signing day and I thought you were gonna throw some super cool sign language at us, sports was the last thing I would have thought of,...

The thing about delegating large amounts of sp to favor certain users over others is that the ones that loose the most are the little fish.
Large sp gets it's rewards straight out of the rewards of the little guys.
It's just a fact in the math.

Ever since delegation became a thing my curation rewards have dropped by a factor of ten.
Things would be even worse here if the 75% of steem that doesn't vote got delegated to the favored few so they could vote themselves even more.

Favoring some users over other users is a pet peeve of mine, I haven't been favored, ever,...and would probably have feelings of self-loathing if I did.
That doesn't preclude delegating to @freebornsociety, they play by different rules.

As for Jerry, he lost me when he came to work in no pants, who could support that?
Damn that Jim Carrey for making idiocy, and poo humor, acceptable in public for the average moron.

Oh, here is the link to make your own accounts: https://steemit.com/news/@timcliff/new-tool-from-busy-org-create-new-steem-blockchain-accounts-with-steemconnect

Hi Freeborn Angel, could you expand on how your curation since people can lease delegated SP? Are you saying that voting has become more specialised since then? Votes are going to fewer people, but those people are getting larger votes?

Large sp gets it rewards from the votes of little sp.
When a large sp account votes it is weighted heavier in the math than a small sp account.
When a post goes to >500 payout, literally hundreds of minnows get bupkiss.
If it goes above 1000 you can make that thousands of minnows.
1000sbd makes for 10k in dimes that don't go to the least sp among us.

If the 75% of sp that doesn't vote did vote, we wouldn't be getting rewards at all for the least among us, and their votes wouldn't even register on the ui.

I'm not the best source of info on this, I can only give anecdotal testimony, but if you go back to before the last hardfork when the whale experiment was going on you will see that what I have said is supported by facts.
@smooth and @abit could tell you, probably off the tops of their heads.

Ahhhh, I get it now, it all works on percentages...

Thanks for explaining that too me. I didn't actually realise the maths behind it all. I thought that if I vote $0.01 on a post at the 30 minute mark and then it gets popular then that would be good... but if huge whales voted on it too then my share would barely exist.

Curation rewards work a little different.
https://steemit.com/curation/@miniature-tiger/an-illustrated-guide-to-curation-from-the-simple-to-the-complex-with-real-examples-from-past-posts-part-1

A whale voting after you would increase your curation rewards.

Oh wait... so you were initially talking about the percentages of the reward pool (sorry there is a lot to take in)... if a post gets >$500 then hundreds of minnows that say, got $0.10 on their postsactually have that $0.10 reduced because the $500 post took such a big percentage of the reward pool... is that what you mean? If that $500 post didn't exist on that day then hundreds of minnows would get their $0.10?

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to explain to me...

Ok, what happens when 10 accounts vote with a total weight of 1000sp, then a vote with 10,000sp comes along and votes, all the other votes have their worth diminished in order to accommodate the large voter.

I can't quote exact numbers but it works on a ratio.
If your vote, prior to the big vote, represented 10% of all the votes, and then a big vote comes along with 10x the sp weight, your vote is now worth 1%.
This is some of the fluctuation you see over the course of the 7 days.

When whales delegate their sp for cash then all other sp is diminished in the math.

So, yes, when big sp votes all small sp loses in proportion to how much they now represent of all sp voted.

If no accounts over 40k sp (80mv) vote, then the minnows matter much more in the math.

Thank you for that... that makes a lot more sense... and I didn't realise that was the case.

I know a lot of the whales did a lot of great work and deserve all the power they have now... and there are whales like rancho that just bought a heap of steem 11 months ago, fell asleep and decided to use it all now... but man I can't wait until the power is distributed a bit more evenly...

P.S) - That curation explanation is just incredible.

Yes, he did a good job on that.

Awww Beth, that was lovely!

TM4450 is super great! He's helped me so much, but more importantly, he gives us all a boost when things are looking bleak... he reminds us why we should be excited to be early adopters on such a innovative platform. Good call young lady!

Hope you smash that Stout Shake!!

thank you for sharing his info @ jhoni will wait for his next friend

I see the major YT guys as a mixed blessing; they may bring followers, but will occupy top spots on the landing page to the exclusion of others. I think that maybe the sign on bonus would have been better if paid in cash, still unfair, but at least they'd be more motivated to bring new users to get the upvotes rather than getting them from the whales giving them the additional advantage of building voting power quickly. I don't feel the pinch like others, when I started Steem was at $1.68 so I'm still ahead; I know my bank account didn't double in 2 months.

Right but regardless of how much Steem was when you bought it, the value (in Fiat) is going down on everyone's account. That's what I meant. If anyone planned to take out any SBD right now, they wouldn't make much on it compared to a month ago.

Yes, but I can't take it out anyway, so why worry as long as it's worth more than it was 2 months ago. I'm far more miffed about my vote max of $0.04 going down to $0.02 today, even though I've got more Steem powered up and the dollar exchange came back up from $2.xx to $3.77. My voting strength is around 90% and it makes no sense.

Yeah I have noticed a lot of strange things happening lately. For days. on Steemd, my rep score has been at 55, but it hasn't budged off 54 on Steemit. It's ultimately not a big deal but I do wonder if it affects my voting at all.

From what I gather, your reputation will grow slower the higher it gets, and eventually slow to a crawl. I also noticed that when I go to my wallet I have a rep score of 25, but everywhere else I have a rep of 47. Your rep score does not have a bearing on your voting value; this is a function of Steem Power, voting power and account value. When the crash hit and Steem was headed for $2, my voting value went from .04 to .03, and now that Steem headed back towards the $4 mark, it drops from .03 to .02, why? My Steem Power went from 97 to 98, my bandwidth is at 90% and my voting power is at 91%.
I've been reading posts about how this voting value is calculated but found nothing so far that explains what is happening to mine.

I also noticed that the payout on my posts drop just before they are due. A couple of days before this recent crash, Steemworld stopped listing external SBD and Steem prices. Coincidence? Maybe, but no explanation was given..

Man my payouts have been taking a beating, even as Steem has been on the rise again. I don't understand how any of this works!

If you notice strange things, screenshot them. I'm doing the same thing on this end.

That's a good idea! One of my posts went from $70 to $28 by day 7. I thought that drop was pretty excessive! And I didn't have any downvotes.
