I got my witness node running!!!! It's very late in the night but the feeling is awesome. I hope it won't crash tonight.

*Edit: It crashed

While I was writing. I am going to switch to my more powerful node. It has a SSD and more RAM. The CPU are also better.
My poor first node will be my storage node since it got 2TB.

      Core™ i5-2300, RAM 16 GB, and 2 TB of storage. I find it a bit slow but the witness seems to be back up.
      Still a lot to learn.

          according to this, at least 8GB of RAM (12 is recommended) , +100GB storage and fast internet.

            Steem is RAM hungry, 16GB should do.

              Good luck optimizing your witness node!
              I basically need to go back in and see who I'm voting for, who's active in the community, and make a judgment call. I thought about starting a witness node but I need a brain break from all of the learning curves I've had this year. lol

                Steemit doesn't emphasis enough on this role, if not I would have try way earlier. I hope I can help make that change.

                There is also a big lack of documentation that is very frustrating as soon as you try to understand the things a bit more.

                  I know exactly what you mean! We would have to rely very heavily on the people who are running a witness node successfully until we got past the hellacious learning curve. My goal is to be confident enough to maybe launch one in 2018 or 2019. There's too much on my plate right now to plan a witness node any sooner. Maybe by then you will have figured it out and I'll come bother you? LOL
