A quick post to answer the questions we've been getting on a regular basis.

I heard only witnesses can make user accounts. Where is my account?

Everyone who already has an account can make user accounts providing they pay their basic fees. The fee is for the account to be created in order to enable it to carry out transactions. The required fee is 6 STEEM or its equivalent in Steem Power, which is approximately 30 SP. Click here to go to the Steem Connect tool for account creation. There are other ways/tools to make said accounts, which can be found with a moment of research.

The site is down again, what are you doing about it as a witness?

Nothing. Witnesses have a technical commitment to the Steem blockchain. Our day to day job is to ensure we don't miss blocks, have properly-configured servers, etc. We have absolutely nothing to do with the Steemit website or any other front end. That being said, some witnesses develop and run front ends. Those are specific only to them and are not the responsibility of all witnesses as a whole.

Can a witness recover my password for me?

No. If you forgot everything to do with your account and are unable to use the standard recovery tool, no one can do anything for you. At times I can only recover the accounts I created and that's only because I have a copy of the original password.

Do you make a lot of money as a witness?

No, but I lose a lot of money, both in operating costs and in opportunity costs. Our goal is to be able to contribute to the Steem blockchain and related community. When we got into this we did so with an understanding that losses are required and are not complaining but to once again reiterate: no.
