It's been 6 months since my last witness update post and it's not because I am slacking! There hasn't been a huge amount of changes in the witnessing world lately, so I have been focusing on other areas of Steem while I can.
Upgrade Time
Firstly, I have just upgraded my Witness to the latest version of Steem (v.0.20.10) and all seems well so far. The last few updates have been minor fixes and security patches - so there's not a huge amount to say about them. The next upgrade may well be to integrate the worker proposal system and I expect that once that is live we will see Steem development accelerate in many ways.
Worker Proposals & Steem Foundation
I intended to put a full proposal together for the structure of the Steem foundation but after putting in a lot of hours and making copious notes, I realised that to achieve anything out of the ordinary, as I intended to - would be too much of a challenge for me alone (given the time available to me). I posted detailed feedback on the other proposals and sat in on a few sessions.
I concluded that the decentralised model proposed, called 'Decentrasteem' by @impactn would be the most interesting and evolved option out of those that I saw. However, it is a major deviation from the traditional corporate organisational structure (an evolution) and it seems that many might find the idea of change too intimidating. Whichever system is put into practice, I am excited to see what comes of it.
The worker proposal system from @blocktrades should be ready soon and I am thinking about how to start working with that from a development perspective.
Building a Steem App
As you may know, I have been running a social network called Ureka for a few years and gradually upgrading and finishing it. I have no team and no budget, so it's a slow process! However, the aim of Ureka is not to compete with Facebook, it is to fill a need for a particular space online that helps those of us who desire evolution to communicate and solve challenges.
I have recently been integrating Steem into Ureka! Yes, that means that I am gradually preparing Ureka to become a full Steem app with it's own mission. Right now it is possible to post to Steem from Ureka via Steemconnect and also to vote on posts. I am currently adding the code to sync the comments between Ureka and Steem too. It's a novel approach since there are two databases involved with their own users. Effectively, I am merging two social networks into one in realtime.
Perhaps most excitingly, when I am done I will be in a position to further develop the code for use on other social networks - so I will have a project that does for independent social networks, what @steempress does for Wordpress. :)
Wishing you well,
Ura Soul
