This has turned into an issue that really has shown people's true colors.
So, Will Smith is almost a half foot taller than Chris Rock. The woke people are claiming that Chris Rock was punching down and therefore deserved. In order to make that argument, finally, there's an incident in which woke people have to decide whether or not they believe figuratively punching down is actually worse than literally punching down. Sadly, yeah, a lot of people seem to believe that.
Still, how can you argue that Chris Rock was punching down figuratively?
Chris Rock doesn't have any racial, ethnic, sex, or gender privilege over will Smith.
In terms of financial privilege, Smith is worth more than five times what Rock is worth.
If you want to argue that Rock has privilege over Jada Pinkett-Smith, okay; but, she's individually worth about as much as Rock. She also didn't do the punching.
Still, history tells us something here.
Let's be real, Everybody in that room was remarkably rich and privileged by comparison to the rest of the world. Celebrities are American royalty. The Smiths are Hollywood royalty and Chris Rock is the court jester.
Now, yeah, the court jester was actually a privileged job for the most part. The jesters would live much better than the overwhelming majority of people; but, that came with the risk of death if a joke about the king or queen or other nobility went too far.
The irony shouldn't be lost that Will Smith literally won the Oscar for the role of King Richard after battering the jester.
No, you're not defending Will Smith because you're standing up for the less privileged. You're doing it because you want to defend your own thirst for violence which is triggered when anything bothers you.
