Woman Crush Tuesday! Strictly Forbidden Women Of Their Days, The Female Genius Ada Lovelace Launched The Digital Age.

in womancrushtuesday •  7 years ago  (edited)

Its a remarkable tale. Ada Lovelace, a British mathematician is the daughter of the eighteenth century's version of a rock star, Lord Byron. Ada was born in the 19th century, as the pride of science, she can be considered as the mother of a digital revolution.

[Ada Lovelace], like Steve Jobs, stands at the intersection of arts and technology." - Walter Isaacson, author of The Innovators.

Lovelace's story and life captured me for my past chilled days on a mini vacation in the viennese woods. Her extravagant father was known for his lavish lifestyle and sexual escapades but was one of the greatest British poets of his times.

Here we go with my new tag #womancrushtuesday, a call for all awesome female steemians to let our community know what crushes you have. I will introduce my first one today.

I have lots of crushes, mostly musicians and I mentioned quite a few in my previous articles, but strong, intelligent and educated, strictly forbidden women of their days, fascinate me most, more than any brilliant man can do.

Myth or Fact?

We couldn't image our lives without computers. How did it all start?

I wanted to research whats the truth about Ada and did she really write what is today considered the world's first computer program?

Ada's Algorithm

Because, after computer pioneers such as Alan Turing began to rediscover her, it slowly became apparent that she had been a key but overlooked figure in the invention of the computer. In Ada Lovelace, The Author James Essinger makes the case that the computer age could have started two centuries ago if Lovelace's contemporaries had recognized her research and fully grasped its implications.- Source

Ada's Algorithm is a look at Ada Lovelace's contributions and her work with the son of a London banker and father of computing, Charles Babbage is simply impressive. Source and review of the book

She was the first debugger finding an error in one of Babbage’s calculations. The annually Ada Award recognises  outstanding contributions to computing by woman.

BBC DOCUMENTARY : Calculating Ada - The Countess of Computing 2015

Hannah traces Ada's unlikely union with the father of computers, Charles Babbage. Babbage designed the world's first steam-powered computers - most famously the analytical engine - but it was Ada who realised the full potential of these new machines. During her own lifetime, Ada was most famous for being the daughter of romantic poet Lord Byron ('mad, bad and dangerous to know'). It was only with the advent of modern computing that Ada's understanding of their flexibility and power (that they could be far more than mere number crunchers) was recognised as truly visionary. Hannah explores how Ada's unique inheritance - poetic imagination and rational logic, made her the ideal prophet of the digital age.

PS : Don't mix it up with Linda Lovelace ( The Deep Throat Pornstar of the 70's ) She will be next :)

Ada! Wow! Great you brought this knowledge to Steemit and nice new Tuesday branding! :)

For some reason I associated Lovelace at first reading the title with indeed this Linda girl/woman hahahaha Good you mentioned this in the post!

I bet more men know Linda 🙀
I hope women of this community will jump on the new Tag. What happened to #originaltag ? The dynamic on the platform is kind of weird. Don't you think so ?

Hi @mammasitta I've Published a post about you, check it out if you can, thanks.

That's incredible news to mention me in your article. I thank you so much. This means a lot to me @jzeek

Dynamics in the works, that is why it is called dynamic :) Original tag I was creating for a long time, but was not really active for quite some time already. I suppose other interests, something new comes along the corner, and when whatever you do is not so valued, or maybe even rewards are not that great, I suppose it can contribute to not continue. A shame though, but yeh, the reality. Steemit reality last weeks is anyway 'self interest', or at least that is growing. 'self interest' does however not create a valuable community therefore it is something that we need to over win to allow Steemit to gain in value and have a future. #womancrushtuesday must become a success! Should I start some men tag? To balance the women ones? :)

Hahhaa #mencrushmondays I will do so and you follow and we promote both

Nice! :)

You can count me in cause… I felt a bit uncomfortable upvoting this post… don’t have the feeling I really fit in this niche market 😂

Wow I didn't know that!

Ada, she really deserves the name of " The Countess Of Computing"
I like to know more women who has contributed to the development of this world and improving it like Ada and I also know more stories of Arabic women who had great contributions too if you want, I can translate their stories into English and send it to you
and thank you so much for bringing such knowledge to us as your followers as an appreciation for the role of those great women

History speaks itself ;)

Haha, that disambiguation at the end floored me @mammasitta XD
Another great post!

Much knowledge, information and history in this post. Great, congratulations...

Welcome back! You pick some interesting topics mammasitta. I'm fascinated by computers and what they can do. So very interesting that women were a part of their development. We always think that men are the computer nerds. Thanks for doing this research.

This really show that ther are no gender restriction over inteligence.

i hardly know both of them, the computing jenius and the porn star. But I cay say i am far behind from Ada Lovelance in term of computing, My math are terible. 😂
