Hello, everyone, and welcome to the conclusion of our Women’s History Month contest. This is @teamgirlpowa’s first official writing contest, and we are so pleased by the response—you all sent us some great creative work! The judges had a difficult time picking the winners, and we want, first of all, to thank each and every person who entered. Thank you for helping us build #womanpower here on Steemit, and for celebrating Women’s History Month with us.
With the help of several wonderful donors, we were able to offer five prizes: four chosen by our judges, and one wild card picked by the community.

Judges’s Choice Prizes:

  • First place for the #TeamGirlPowa Women in History Non-Fiction work is 10 STEEM.
  • Second place for the #TeamGirlPowa Women in History Non-Fiction work is 5 STEEM.
  • First place for the #TeamGirlPowa Women in History Fiction work is 10 STEEM.
  • Second place for the #TeamGirlPowa Women in History Fiction work is 5 STEEM.

Third Place Prize - Wild Card Honorable Mention:

Our generous donor @carlgnash was kind enough to give an additional 5 STEEM for one extra prize. The winner will be a Wild Card choice between the entries not awarded by the judges, and it will be decided by a public vote. How it works: we will post each eligible entry as a comment below, and the winner will be determined by your upvotes. You have until Tuesday 3 April at 11pm EDT to cast your vote and promote your favorite.

And now—drumroll, please—the results!

Women in History:

Coming in first place and winning 10 STEEM is @trucklife-family’s entry: Brigid- The Goddess and The Saint: Uniting the people of Ireland

Brigid really represented balance, recognizing the masculine and feminine within us all. To be strong in our gentleness and gentle with our strength. She was and still is loved as a goddess and Saint of peace and inspiration, one of compassion and generosity, and one who had great gifts of insight and wisdom.

Taking second place and winning 5 STEEM is @aislingcronin’s entry: Granuaile: The "Pirate Queen" of Ireland Who Inspires Me Today

Legend has it that Granuaile and Richard wed under an old Gaelic law which certified the marriage for just one year, after which Granuaile sensationally “divorced” him by removing all of his belongings from Rockfleet Castle (a castle in which the couple had lived, originally owned by Richard) and telling him that he was relieved of his marital duties. The law under which they had wed entitled Granuaile to keep Rockfleet Castle from that point onwards.

Futuristic Fiction:

Coming in first place and winning 10 STEEM is @linnyplant’s entry: Sensitivity Programming

Jenna’s heart jumped in excitement at the mention of the Gen-X8 colony. This role would involve spending time on the Mars outpost. Snapping out of her awe, she reminded herself she wasn’t a young graduate. With twelve years working in elite research programs with multi-million dollar budgets, she needed to set the tone for the meeting. Jenna stuck out her hand to General Kemp with a steady confidence and a welcoming smile she didn’t feel.

Taking second place and winning 5 STEEM is @debbitiyan’s entry: When it happens - A short story

Monsurah sighed, “fine, you’re scared because you believe too much in the supernatural, but I would prove to you it doesn’t exist. But as for going back, count me out of it. I am tired of living that kind of life. I am tired of being judged by my looks and sex. I am tired of being objectified. I am tired of being told my future – of how many children I would bear, and what sexes they would be of. I am tired Aisha, and I know you are too.” She finished, and walked off from a whimpering Aisha.

Congratulations to the judges’s picks! Thanks, everyone, for sharing the contest and participating.

Be sure to scroll down and upvote your favorite Wild Card entries in the comments.

@choogirl's entry: https://steemit.com/teamgirlpowa/@choogirl/women-in-history-caroline-chisholm-australia-s-first-feminist

Caroline's vision for an egalitarian society was far ahead of her time. Her views on women, ethnicity, religion, and possibly even homosexuality (1) were forward-looking and not typical of anyone—let alone women—of her era. She believed in the rights of women and a fair go for all, which underpinned Australia's development as a nation and is still felt today.

Truly an amazing write up.

Very well written and thank you for this history @choogirl

❤️

This was an amazing piece!

an excellent write up on an amazing woman

I really appreciated @choogirl taking a scholarly approach, including attention to thorough referencing.

11:22 so you win! Enjoy your 5 steem from Feminist Cryptozine and womens empowerment team - @teamgirlpowa

Congratulations, @choogirl, on winning the Wild Card prize—well done!

I did learn a few things, very interesting!

@anjkara's entry: https://steemit.com/teamgirlpowa/@anjkara/kitty-wilkinson-saint-of-the-slums

This is the inspirational story of Kitty Wilkinson, a poor Irish immigrant who, despite a series of personal tragedies, devoted herself to improving lives in the slum communities of Liverpool. It was the turn of the 19th century, she was penniless, an Irish immigrant, a widow and a mother. But, driven by genuine compassion for the unfortunate, she founded the first public wash-house; provided a home for orphans, the sick and the abandoned; and her work helped minimise the impact of one of Liverpool's worst cholera epidemics. This woman was unstoppable.

@maverickinvictus's entry: https://steemit.com/teamgirlpowa/@maverickinvictus/women-in-history-fiction-work-citadel-of-sofia-sophia

The night takes an entirely beautiful scene when the Citadel lights up and bathe the surrounding buildings with a purplish hue. This is the highlight of her day as she ends her sentry duty on The Wall.

"Life is beautiful" Leandred said to herself as she made her way down.

Thank you for adding me as a wild card entry hope I can gather enough support to help me power up more

@ashley4u's post: https://steemit.com/teamgirlpowa/@ashley4u/queen-of-mars

This is a story about how an ordinary girl becomes someone extraordinary in the year 2080 , and this whole story is happening in Mars. Mars had just been found out to be a planet where civilization is possible.

Thank you so much, I really enjoyed taking part and learning so much from the other amazing entries to this great contest I look forward to reading some more of them. Thank you @teamgirlpowa and @tessaragabrielle, @limabeing and @spicyshai

You know, @trucklife-family, it has occurred to me just how great it is that the top two entries in the Non-Fiction section were about Irish women. Irish women rock! 😉

Yes they do what fierce power and strength they have xx congrats on your post xx

Congrats mama!!

@cryptkeeper17's entry: https://steemit.com/non-fiction/@cryptkeeper17/international-hollywood-bombshell-also-among-her-lesser-accomplishments

I think there is a female actress, visionary, scientist, war engineer, among countless other superlatives and titles during her astonishing lifetime that also fits in the category of why in the world has this story been stashed away? This one fits that category and then some.

@solarsupermama's entry: https://steemit.com/teamgirlpowa/@solarsupermama/lucy-parsons-forgotten-radical-heroine

She was an integral part of the radical movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She was a brilliant speaker and a prolific writer. So, why have you never heard of her? Well, that has at least something to do with the fact that everything she had ever written was confiscated by the FBI before her body was even cold. For the entirety of her life, she had been a thorn in the side of the establishment. They had more frequently refused to grant permits allowing her to speak than allowed them in Chicago where she spent most of her life. So they didn't waste any time in confiscating her writings once she was dead.

@iamthegray's entry: https://steemit.com/teamgirlpowa/@iamthegray/the-story-from-the-female-burgaharti-fiction

“It was the sixth year of King’ Saul’s Reign when I left the Academy. I had just taken up a job at the Imperial Court as a proof reader. Then the Galatical Speech to Text machine wasn’t so developed. Every now and then, they would omit a word or spell a word wrongly or put in a totally different word. So, in truth, my job was to stare at the screen all day while the hearings went on.

@tygertyger's entry: https://steemit.com/teamgirlpowa/@tygertyger/zoe-s-daughters-or-a-set-of-russian-nesting-dolls-teamgirlpowa-woman-of-history-contest

The woman on my Mothers side of the family have always been exceptionally strong and many led exceptional lives which were often paired with deep tragedy. We boast such women as Zoe Obolensky , Lover, mistress and Patron of Russian revolutionary and anarchist Mikhail Bakunin. My great great grandmother, sister to Leo Tolstoy’s wife was in part inspiration for the book Anna Karenina. Obviously she did not die under a train but actually left her husband, taking her daughter(not a son) with her, and married her lover who she had two more girls and a boy with.

Oh wow 😍😍😍😍 Thank you so much! I see there are a few entries here I haven't read yet. I'll get on that ASAP.

A heart-felt thank you to @jokossita @limabeing, @carlgnash, @adedoyinwealth, and @eaglespirit for this opportunity. I already felt rewarded for participating, but this made it extra super special for me. I remember that morning I woke up thinking I just had to enter—it’d been nagging at me for days to do so. So then it was a mad writing spree for the next few hours, fine-tuning and correcting. It was still not perfect, but it meant more to me to be part of the experience. And that’s the power of inspiration imparted by #teamgirlpowa.

It’s not only been educational as far as learning more about how Steemit works, but I also I found myself a passionate and generous community who support kindness and equality for all. I encourage others to join in on the #teamgirlpowa future fun and spreading the love to everyone!

(And I need to get my wildcard vote in too!!)
