If we take a look to the technology industry around us, it wouldn't be that hard to assume the domination of men in that industry is comparatively way more than women. That's because the men are ruling the industries for very long time.
If we get back to the ancient age of human history, we see men have always been at the center and women were always judged in terms of sexuality. Now the world has changed and gender inequalities have become somewhat equal yet these industries have very similar patterns. The reason for this is the lack of education from all parties. While men still continue to think they're better than women, women are slowly climbing up.
Various polls and surveys were done in cryptocurrency that states the contribution of women in cryptocurrency is already smell. Only about four to six percent of women are blockchain and cryptocurrency investors. Thus the booming industry of cryptocurrency has already started turning into the colors of others technology related industries.
According to Jane Zhang, marketing partner at a blockchain-powered predictive market, Delphy says the world of cryptocurrencies marks behind in diversity with an underlying tone of a ‘gentlemen’s club’ culture.
Zhang raises questions such as even though the technology industry strides are being made with gender and sex equality then why cryptocurrency events such as North American Bitcoin Conference were held at strip club in Miami.
But is it too late to take some actions on it and such topics can only be discussed in an article like this.
No it’s not that late, In fact some early female investors have already starting ringing the alarm. Alexia Bonatsos, Venture capitalist took her words to twitter which states “Women, consider crypto, Otherwise the men are going to get all the wealth, again.”
Many crypto leaders are organizing and hosting events, conference to encourage womens to the industry. Alexia Bonatsos and Jalak Jobanputra, founder of start-up investment firm Future Perfect Ventures and many other blockchain developers gathered in New York to discuss the issue and later announced that they would form a blockchain diversity advocacy group called Collective Future and will create a diversity pledge for crypto companies to maintain a diversity of genders, to sign as a show of commitment.
Ms Jobanputra said "The early days are what decide the culture of an industry and who gets involved in making the decisions."
Women in Cryptocurrency
Arianna Simpson, an early cryptocurrency investor, said the surge of interest in virtual currencies from male novices should remind women that it did not take expertise or a Phd. to get in the ecosystem. “Women always question if they’re qualified, But look at these clowns around us.”
As per the Investors and Entrepreneurs who organized various events and conference for womens shared some excellent responses they received by the women guests. Brit Morin, A Silicon Valley Entrepreneur had a blockchain gathering for women, which was sold out within an hour. Then she kept an another gathering in a bigger venue for 500 people and that was sold out too. And then she setup a live stream for an event which was joined by 16K viewers. With such experiences Morin said “We have an opportunity to rebuild the financial system, Women want to be part of that.”
We already discussed the issue of lack on women’s involvement in cryptocurrency. Let’s end the article with the some known names that are involved in cryptocurrency and would inspire other womens as well.
