Being in your 20s can be daunting especially if you’re a woman who’s finding your special place in the real world. You start learning more about yourself. You’re on a quest to determine what and where you want to be personally and professionally. There are many years ahead and that’s why being in your 20s is the perfect time to start taking charge of your health. It’s time to go to the doctor sans mom. Here are four medical specialists you have to see:

Your primary care physician

It’s a must to always see a primary care physician who interprets the findings of blood tests, urinalysis, and fecal analysis among others. He or she also recommends the necessary treatments in case something goes beyond normal. Your 20s are a time when you often lose track of your diet and lifestyle, and this can trigger either an increase or decrease in key measures such as blood count, blood glucose, and lipoprotein. Your primary care physician is the right person to discuss your healthcare needs.

Your OB/GYN

Your 20s should prompt you to see an OB/GYN who can conduct pelvic exams every one to three years and pap smears every two to three years. You may also consult your OB/GYN about appropriate birth control methods and for STD screenings if you are sexually active. An OB/GYN’s insights are crucial to your reproductive health even when you’re not planning to become pregnant soon.

Your dermatologist

By the time you’re in your 20s, sun exposure must have caught up with your skin. Your dermatologist can check for any signs of skin cancer and recommend the needed treatments just in case. Not to disregard, you may also consult your dermatologist for cosmetic procedures.

Your dentist

It is hoped that in your 20s, you are finally not afraid of your dentist. Much like your childhood and teenage years, the dentist should conduct regular cleaning and additional procedures to ensure that your pearly whites are free from cavities.

Your 20s are crucial to your health and well-being, and the steps you’ll take during this period can direct the trajectory of your health-related concerns in the following decades. Like what’s said at the beginning of this article, your 20s is the perfect time to start taking charge of your health, and this time sans mom!
