We think this statement clearly personifies the person we met in the 4th Episode of Hard Fork Specials — Women in Blockchain! Our guest in the 4th episode of this special series brings a substantial amount of fearlessness in her current avatar as an entrepreneur. Having founded and run multiple ventures — “some successful, some failed, some moderately successful”— in her entrepreneurial experience of more than a decade, she fairly demonstrates this trait when she candidly states that it is not a shame to fail — she’d rather wear failure as a badge of honor!
This is the character of a real path-breaker!
Introducing — Tarusha Mittal — Our Guest
Tarusha Mittal is an award-winning entrepreneur and a self-taught techie, who has been working in the field of technology for over a decade! She has been a mentor to women entrepreneurs and helps them in creating value for themselves. Tarusha is currently the COO and Co-founder of Ethx — which is a global cryptocurrency exchange and an integrated blockchain and crypto suite on a decentralized network; and Trsts.co — which provides blockchain-based documentation storage and shared computing power. For enterprises, they are creating a network wherein they can host their data and apps.

She is passionate about the blockchain and crypto world and also directs and hosts a podcast called — ‘Living on Blockchain’. She is working hard to create an inclusive fintech platform for users. She is a problem solver, a business mentor to early-stage women entrepreneurs, writer, self-taught techie, and a generalist.

Our conversations with Tarusha had some interesting outcomes. Being a seasoned entrepreneur, she has had a lot of exposure in the driver's seat of an organization. She shared some amazing and valid points:
- The most critical problem faced by her as a COO has been talent acquisition and building the right team — finding the right people to do the job and in a given timeline.
- Founders usually take a DIY approach to everything in their start-up which could be a wrong step; it is good to delegate some processes to the right people.
- There are a lot of graduates who are not armed with the right skills for becoming employable.
- With blockchain technology, talent becomes much more pronounced, as this space is so much in its infancy that finding a person with the right skillsets becomes a challenge.
- Everybody wants to hop on to the blockchain bandwagon and get a tagline saying “I am a blockchain developer” — but they usually do not have the right credentials.
- Blockchain literacy to improve the employability of these graduates can be done by disseminating the right information to the masses which can be done by thought leaders in this field.
- The mass media has demonized the crypto space a lot and they do not do fact-checking and this created a negative perception about this space.
- The thought leaders need to go out of their way to create good content and dismantle this perception created by non-crypto media.
- We should also encourage companies which can create solutions which could become a part of our everyday life.
- People in India have a “scarcity mindset”.
- Movements need to inclusive and hence the voice of the women needs to be heard.
- Women bring a different kind of leadership to the table.
- We need all kinds of skilled people, talents and resources on to the blockchain and not only coders or developers.
- The onus on bringing inclusiveness lies on both, the men and the women
- We cannot be a “rebel without a cause” — bring pragmatism into the conversations.
- Women should take the plunge and be confident, they will meet the right people — they should be shameless in expressing and pursuing their dreams - the worsts that could happen is they will fail.
- Failure should not be a taboo — wear your failure as a badge of honor!
