IOT Based Women Security: A Contemplation

Women’s safety can be considered to be a highly contentious issue in the present scenario. In spite of the fact that women are progressing and achieving higher positions in their fields, a number of crimes against women especially of sexual assault, molestation are surging at faster pace.

Undoubtedly, technology has been working immensely to save the women from these types of unfortunate occurrences. The software developers have proposed solutions in the form of mobile applications and smart hardware-software integrated devices. We synthesized the different scopes available for the safety of women using IoT.

Various Smart Hardware gadgets provide security by the inbuilt configuration of hardware and software mechanism. The mechanism used in most of the hardware devices is the programming done on micro controllers such as Arduino, raspberry pi along with sensors like temperature sensors, buzzer sensors so that they can help the women in peril to sense and make her ready for the unknown situation. Another type of smart device may either use machine learning algorithms or adopt artificial intelligence approach to develop the product. These products can sense the unfavorable conditions and produce either electric shocks or generate some alarming message to victim’s relatives. A number of latest technologies are used to track the location of victim with the help of GPS enabled and to provide help to victim as early as possible. Wearable devices like Smart watch/Smart band are very handy and provide a good protection to women by sensing the body parameters like anxiety, nervousness, heartbeat, blood pressure. They give results on the changed values of training data and the threshold values. If a victim is in trouble, her changed body variable values give indications to her enlisted contacts or to the nearest police station.

Second classification of Women safety is evolved around developed mobile applications. The application’s user must register for application so that she can take the advantage when she is in trouble.This type of application may convert the voice message given by victim into the text and deliver to all her mentioned contact numbers.Another category of cellular applications are GUI based in which clicking on Panic button or help button gives solution by sending alert messages to designated contacts in distressful situation. By the use of application the lady can be helped by broadcasting the message when she got afraid by the unfavorable condition. The help can be in type of form like screaming the alarm, clicked picture, giving electric shock all set in gadget.

In conclusion, After analyzing and reviewing i can say that although mobile applications are cheap as they can be directly downloaded from the internet, most cellular applications require internet connection to operate and many applications are built only for Android mobile users and not for IOS or windows phone. In addition, there are some situations where operating of mobile phone is not possible as the attacker may destroy the phone of the victim easily knowing it can be used as an evidence against him. Moreover, there can be illiterate class of women who do not know how to operate the smart phone. In contrast, smart hardware gadgets are easy to carry and can be used as an accessory on the body. Despite of being costly as compared to mobile applications, they can be automatically activated with the changed values of biological parameters of the victim such as shivering, nervousness or increased heartbeat which is a distinctive feature of such devices. Furthermore, portable smart hardware gadgets are easy to operate as compared to mobile applications because clicking single button is easy than operating the cellular application which requires literacy to some extent.

Smart devices like smart watch, locket are easy to carry and automatically sense the dangerous situation with the help of body variables. These devices can even produce shock to the assailant by giving the opportunity of absconding to the victim. Moreover, these devices can be used by aged ladies or minor girls who do not know how to operate the smart phone. Nevertheless, awareness of such devices is a crucial factor among public.
