Ride em Hard and put them away wet - PLANE TALK -

in wood •  7 years ago

In this episode of Plane Talk, I wanted to touch base on caring for your tools on a regular basis.

It makes no difference if your plane is shop made, wood body, Iron or bronze body, the wood we plane contains chemicals which will stick to and / or corrode your planes.

If you are working in wet woods, be diligent about breaking the tools down often and cleaning. Even if the woods are 100 years old and dry, you still need to at least dust off and oil your tools on some regular basis.

If you are working on a large project and are in the worksop day after day... then it is a goo quiet morning regiment to clean and prep all your edge tools each day.

The more wet your climate is, the more often than if your climate is dry, or your workshop may also be damp or dry. Take all precaution to preserve your tools.

I hope you found something helpful or at least entertaining.
