2018 Shop Tour

in woodworking •  7 years ago

Today wanted to do a shop tour… Well I guess it’s more of a basement tour, but anyways I want to show you my work space and what I have to work with. As I mentioned in the video the only tool that I normally use, but do not show, is the CNC from work. Yes they are kind to let em barrow tools, but a 8’X20’ CNC is a bit hard to fit in my Chevy Cobalt. Aslo it’s a item used daily at the shop so don’t think they would let me take it anyway.

But here is a picture if your were curious what it looks like.

And here is a video of it running at 64X speed, But I’m going to leave this machine for the topic of another day. Hope everyone has a great week.

Very cool. A cnc of some description is definitely on my wish list.

There are a lot of variation out there. I know a lot of people get the X-Carve. I personally want to get a Shapeoko 3. It's bit more solid then the X-carve, and has a lot of the major components as per built sub-assemblies shipped right to you. This cuts down on a lot of the build time. Now with those 2 big bonuses the Shapeoko is more expensive, but in my opinion it much more worth it. Now neither of these machines are as nice as either CNC I have access to at work (The one I use is pictured above, The other is the woodshop's. It has more features that they've never used, but never works due to poor maintenance). The Shapeoko and X-carve are the 2 big names I know on the milling end of things. When it come to laser engravers, and 3D printer I'm not as knowledgeable.
