Spalted Mango

This is the edge of a freeform bowl I made a few years back. When fresh hewn mango wood sits on damp ground, this fungus starts to decompose the wood, leaving this black line as it grows into the wood fibers.

I love splayed wood...... I used to make knife handles from salted maple and what I like is when you slice it no 2 patterns are ever the same
