Leafy Seadragon — Design for a Shoji Screen, Part 11; Surface Prep

Here is the final surface prep of the frame. The birdseye maple is prone to tearout so I smoothed it with a card scraper.

A couple comparison shots of the birdseye maple, before and after scraping.

You can see how the tool marks and tearout have been smoothed down.

That leaves a mirror like surface for the finish.

Next time, the oil goes on the walnut burl.
