So the plan was to trim this walnut veneer,

Make a few repairs,

Tape up the veneer sheets in what I call a slip-spin layup, then glue it to the panel.

But, it turns out that was the wrong technique. Disaster!

There was too much water in the glue. The burl sheets expanded unevenly and the tape dissolved.

So I figured I better put the camera down and rethink things.

The great thing about hide glue is it reliquifies when heated. After some work with a heat gun and an iron, I managed to pull enough moisture out of the burl to flatten it and stick it down.

If you look close, you can see the seams are no longer straight and the burl has a few cracks and holes, but that can be repaired.

Next time, a better technique for the remaining two panels, and later, details on the repairs to the damaged burl.

Kind words, thank you:)

Good work saving it!

Blimey! I felt that. You have my utmost sympathy and respect for saving that. I think I may have lost my temper with it. You can tell a good craftsman by how he can fix mistakes and let's face it we all make them. Well done.
