Pie Crust Tea Table, Turning the Spindle

in woodworking •  7 years ago

I started with a piece of scrap poplar left over from my vise jaws to practice, since I would only have one chance to get it right in walnut.

Then used that as a template for the real one.

I am still learning to use the gouge so I went extra slow.

I made a few mistakes. You might spot them if you look close, but I decided to stop while I was ahead.

The next step is to cut the sliding dovetails to join the legs to the spindle so stay tuned.

Looks pretty good, how long have you been turning ?

Just a few months since I got the lathe

Solid work! How did you shapen the other parts? Bandsaw??;)

I used a jigsaw, then a spokeshave and a rasp.

I like the design of the spindle. Its all progressing nicely.
