I started with a piece of scrap poplar left over from my vise jaws to practice, since I would only have one chance to get it right in walnut.
Then used that as a template for the real one.
I am still learning to use the gouge so I went extra slow.
I made a few mistakes. You might spot them if you look close, but I decided to stop while I was ahead.
The next step is to cut the sliding dovetails to join the legs to the spindle so stay tuned.
