Woodshaving Wednesday, Cabinet Scraper on Maple

in woodworking •  7 years ago

For a fine finish on curly wood you need a scraper. You can get all different textures and thicknesses of shavings depending on how you pull the hook.

These shavings are so thin you can see right through them.

well as you know I haven't shaved in a while.....lol.......that curly stuff definitely needs the scraper ..... I have sanded the crap outa some of that and it takes while to get the waves flat..... But on a guitar neck you can't use a scraper.......

Why is that? Because the curvature? Frets get in the way?

Yes.... All the rounded edges and such. Frets aren't an issue because that's a whole nuther piece of work..... They usually go in after its all shaped. A good spokeshave would work tho....
