The famous physicist Stephen Hawking reportedly died at the age of 76 years.

He died at his home in Cambridge on Wednesday (14/3/2018) early morning local time, coinciding with Pi Day and the birthday of other famous physicist, Albert Einstein.

News about Hawking's death was delivered by a family spokesman.

"We are very sad because our beloved father has died today," said Hawking's children, Lucy, Robert, and Tim, quoted by Sky News on Wednesday (14/3/2018).

"He is a great scientist and extraordinary man, whose performance and legacy will live for years to come," the statement continued.

This English man is known through his work in the field of 'black hole' and relativity and composed several science books, one of which is "A Brief History of Time".
The story of his life was raised to the big screen "The Theory of Everything", starring Eddie Redmayne in 2014.

The man who has the full name of Stephen William Hawking was born in Oxford in 1942.

Hawking began his scientific studies at University College, Oxford.

This cosmologist was diagnosed with motor neuron disease in 1963, when he was 21 years old.

Despite his illness, Hawking continued his studies at Cambridge University and made him one of the most influential physicists since the time of Albert Einstein.
