Here are ten unmistakable signs your boss wants you to quit:
- They take away your best projects for no reason.
- They change your title and/or your pay to take away something you value (or they hope you value).
- They cut you off from all communication with people outside the department — especially higher-level managers who might give you more praise and reinforcement than your boss wants you to have.
- They invent infractions and missteps they swear you made, even when you’re doing your job almost perfectly.
- They avoid you, and don’t reply to your email and voicemail messages.
- They say negative things about you to other employees — sometimes in a “joking” way that is all too serious.
- They stop talking with you about the future, even about projects that were nailed down and authorized before.
- They give your most interesting duties to other people without explaining why. They don’t care if you learn about these changes in the most discouraging way — for instance, in the company newsletter or when somebody asks you to send them your files.
- They ignore you when they see you – averting their eyes and pretending you don’t exist.
- They stop copying you in on group emails or group texts.
