Pedantic, Pathetic or Perfectionist?

in work •  6 years ago

Hey Jessfectionists

Pedantic people are annoying right? Or am I just being a drama token holder? I'm always open to constructive criticism even if its said harshly but when I see the advice being given seeming so minuscule that a conversation about it isn't worth it I have to draw the line.

When people tend to correct the smallest so-called "errors" or when they pay more attention to the minor details and even convince you that they are way better than you in knowledge and skills.

I have dealt with people like that on several occasions and honestly, I don't understand why you would even do this? What are the reasons behind it?

I thought I was the expert

If you're asking someone to do something you trust that they either know better than you, have more skills or more time to be attentive to do it. Sure we're humans we all make mistakes and the second pair of eyes is welcome but seriously not everything needs to be changed for the sake of you having to give feedback.

Can you not accept that the person did the task you wanted perfectly and you can just say this is what I wanted and add a thank you?

Holding up the process

Any task or project is a work in progress and nothing will ever be perfect we will always learn as we go along so I don't understand why people will hold up the process so the smallest details trying to chase this illusion of perfection. There is no perfection, there is only progress and improvement.

Pat yourself on the back

  • Client: Please move image 2 px down
  • Me: Ok
  • Client: Please move image 10 px to the left
  • Me: Done
  • Client: Ok, final change please move image 2 px up and 10 to the right
  • Me: Sure
  • Client: Perfect

Then they proceed to pat themselves on the back for a job well done, without this valuable feedback this task would not have had the exact same outcome. Is it just me or is there some sort of screw loose in the mind of someone who does this?

Have your say

Are you pedantic? How do you deal with pedantic people?

Holla at me in the comments! All my commenters I will now refer to as Jessie. Jessie is a good friend of mine, but Jessies got a girl, and I want to make her mine.

So have at it my Jessies! If you don't have something to comment, simply comment "I am a Jessie."

Sometimes, one of the difficult sentence to come out from humans being mouth is appreciation sentences. Thank you is hard to say for some people. You know, they just felt you should do it right as that is their expectations so why the appreciation

Thats so true lol people don't often like to give credit for some reason or say thank you, not sure where this entitled behaviour has come from

Ah. I don't really about that really to say
