It wasn't something that I had an interest in particularly. I came out of University to find zero jobs because many employers in the UK are obsessed with wanting people with skills and experience when they should be giving young people a chance and support them to integrate with their company.
My father who was first and foremost a master of all trades (building, electrics, plumbing) had to wind down his work because of having a number of strokes and so went back to a side business he had during the quiet times, he has work with Coins, Jewellery and Watches since the mid-eighties and had given me a job since it was paying enough for him to be able to pay me at the time (when Gold was at its peak).
It was something to put on the CV and actually was a bit of a good thing for me personally since I had been dealing with depression a lot more then than I do now and it got me out of the house and talking to people, not that I like people but hey, got to fake it to make it. We would travel street markets selling our products, antique and second-hand Silver and Gold Jewellery mostly and from there I became more interested in Jewellery. I did have quite a few pieces I kept to myself but since going minimalist I now keep what I wear only, why keep pieces lying around to gather dust?!
From October 2014 I have been running the stall myself but business is diet, market stall businesses are dying and traders like myself can not pay the bills, it has got to the point now where I am looking for a full time job for a regular pay but I loathe the idea of working for someone. It's got to the point now where currently I have around £35 in the bank but around £20 of that is going to be needed for rent this Saturday at my next market and I need the rest for fuel which will just about get me there and back if I am lucky. I can work some markets and have just one customer though in January now I am used to days of taking nothing.
