Protecting Yourself From Work At Home Scams
It will be quite tempting to take a look at those tons of work at home offers that are screaming from over the roof. But all of them sound exactly alike that telling a scam from a genuine offer is hard enough. There are zillions of offers that tell you to work online for a big fee. Then there are quite a few offline work-at-home opportunities in the same category.
Are These All Scams?
No, I am not saying that just yet. The advertisements are so cleverly and tantalizingly designed that target those who are looking to augment their incomes albeit at a one-time small fee. Nevertheless protecting yourself from scams, especially when you are looking to earn to supplement your regular income, is the need of the hour. Here are some tips.
Tips To Avoid Work At Home Scams
- Check with the Better Business Bureau whether the advertiser is registered there.
- Avoid offers claiming unbelievably high returns. Earning isn’t that easy; leave aside them paying you $200 every day against a silly typing job. Never signup immediately or give away your card number
- Stay away from job offers which ask for deposits or registration fees however small it is. The demand may increase later
- Check all business offer for their mailing address, years in business, their payment policy including the lead time, their clients etc.
- The fraudulent offers are usually manifested of ‘at-home’ data entry or email processing or assembly or even stuffing envelops which most often demand a refundable deposit. But no business can pay such huge amounts of money for little or no work. Refrain from such traps
- If you still want to go ahead and pay them, ask for specific terms of work and payment in writing
You can research various avatars of scams at scambusters and report to FTC via email. It is just the temptation which leads us towards agony. Worst is when we realize that the scams are all targeted at people in quest of additional income. Caution alone prevents you from repenting sooner than later.
