Introduction
As part of progressing forward through my education and into work life, my school organised a week in which all the students would go to an organisation of their choice to observe/work with them. The aim of this work experience placement week was to help students find out what the work environment is like whilst developing the necessary skills to help them when they first start work. For me, it was a truly phenomenal experience in which I will always remember and cherish! I was given a work experience booklet by my school which included a diary which I had filled in.
Here is just a brief summary of what I achieved each day...
Monday - 10th July 2017
Today I was introduced to all the staff - They are all great people in their own unique way. I have learnt the organisational structure of the company (what staff makes up each department). What I have most enjoyed today is being around friendly people who I feel comfortable to turn to if I have any issues. On the other hand, I haven't enjoyed the repetitiveness of the work. However, I'm sure the work will vary much more as the week progresses.
Tuesday - 11th July 2017
Today I have learnt the basic roles and skills to goods inwards (stock coming into the warehouse). In addition, I carried out the jobs of packing the vans and order picking. I found order picking to be very tedious and one in which a lot of mistakes were made. However, I know that I need to make mistakes in order to get better and that's what helps me think more positively! Despite this, I have enjoyed doing a variety of different tasks today.
Wednesday - 12th July 2017
Today I have learnt how to stack products on to pallets safely and efficiently. Also, I got to ask one of the senior members of staff lots of questions from my experience booklet and questionnaire. Although my work rate has been quite slow due to having to take in a lot of information, I have liked feeling as though I have achieved something by working in the warehouse.
Thursday - 13th July 2017
Today I have been kept on my feet!
Today I have:
- worked within the sales department - processing orders in.
- observed and overseen members of staff making both wine and beer kits.
- discussed with the chief executive his role within the business.
- worked in the invoices (i.e bills) department - where invoices for products and orders are processed, ready for delivery to customers. They are then sorted out into delivery routes across the U.K.
I have enjoyed seeing how every individual's role, when combined, helps to make a successful business.
Friday - 14 July 2017
Today I have been in the accounts department and have learnt how important it is for the company to receive the correct money on time. I have also been in the warehouse learning the key stages to packing products before being stacked on pallets ready for sale.
conclusion- reflecting upon the week...
What an awesome week it has been! I have really enjoyed the opportunity of getting to know some fantastic people who have really helped me throughout the week I've spent here. It's been tough having to absorb a lot of information from each individual role but being surrounded by such a supportive group of staff, made it so much easier for me. Through my mistakes and successes, I have been able to find out a lot about myself - both what I'm good at and what requires improvement.
To say thank you to the organisation for taking me on board, I bought them a little gift in return. :)
I hope you enjoyed this blog and are all having a great weekend!
Jonathan. :)

It seems like you have had an astounding time at your work experience.
The last time I had work experience it was hell as I had to do so much as an amateur then get scorned at if I did anything wrong.
The best thing to have are friendly people who are fun to work with
The rest is just fine I think haha
I'm glad that you had a great time @jonathanyoung
