One of the results of my shoulder / arm injury was the loss of strength. Once on hike, i took a branch from a hazelnut to carve a hiking stick for my little daughter. Next day i felt a slight muscle sore in the right fore arm. That gave me the idea that carving with a knife might make a good workout for my arm.
Next question: what to carve? As i do Iaido, closest (and might be easiest to carve ;) would be bokuto's, wooden swords.
Now i have finished my third bokuto, and it's a great exercise, and addition to my workout. It also provides a soothing and meditational aspect i really enjoy.
As side product we got perfect tinder for our wood oven :)
A look on about halfway through the carving. The wood used is wild cherry. therefore this sword is not usable for 'combat practice', as the wood is to brittle. That made it a bit of a challenge while carving too.
On the other hand, the wood is very very light, and therefore nimble in movement.
I also did wrap aTsuka Ito for the first time . This is image is from practicing as i haven't received the proper colour for the grip band yet. I guess that will be another post ;)
Have a wonderful day my Peepz, and always make your workout fun :D
