Lunar showstopper: World witnesses rare super blue blood moon

People across the world enjoyed the rare sighting of a supermoon, a Blood Moon and a lunar eclipse, together yesterday. The world was enthralled with the celestial event that last took place 35 years ago.

  • Tonight's sighting of a "blue Moon" and a total lunar eclipse is occurring in India for the first time since 1982.
  • Hundreds of people, including young children and adults, have turned up at Delhi's India Gate to view the event.

  • SPACE India, a start-up focused on astronomy education and astro-tourism services, has organised events to observe the phenomenon from 6pm-9.30pm at various locations across India, including India Gate.

  • Rest of India will get a chance to see the lunar trifecta between 5:18pm and 6:21pm. The west coast and parts of Rajasthan will witness the event from 6:21pm to 7:37pm. The eclipse is expected to last for one hour and 16 minutes.
