What time is it?

Did you know that there are more than 24 different Time Zones in this world. Most of them being 1 hour apart but there are several time zones that are between 30 minuets to 45 minutes apart. Currently there are 38 different time zones.

Times Zones are set using the Universal Time system (UTC) which is based at zero degress langitude. Greenwhich, London United kingdom, is the area of the world that UTC is measured from.

The first area of the world to see the new day is Kiribati located in the Christmas Island. They have a time zone of UTC +14, putting them 14 hours ahead of Greenwich.

The part of the world to see the day last is Baker Island, part of the USA minor outlaying Islands. With a time zone of UTC - 12, putting them 12 hours behind Greenwich.

Each Time Zone is 15 degress wide from zero degress langitude, all based from Greenwich which is at zero degrees langitude.

Every place on Earth is measured in terms of its distance east or west of the prime meridian (0°longitude) in Greenwich, London, United Kingdom. This is also the reference point for Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) with 1 hour per 15 degrees longitude.

You have to divide the longitude, in degrees, by 15 to find the appropriate time zone, in hours. For example:

At 150 degrees west (or 150° W) longitude, the time should be 150 degrees divided by 15 degrees = 10 hours behind UTC, or UTC-10.
At 75 degrees east (or 75° E) longitude, the time would be 75 degrees divided by 15 degrees = 5 hours ahead of UTC, or UTC+5.

So to sum this up, the world has a 24 time difference, with 38 different time zones set up. So the next time you need to know what time it is, just google it.

Most of the people in the world do not know about the timezone of other countries, which everyone needs to know about, because all of them may find some useful knowledge from here. I think general world people need to keep accurate knowledge about the timezone because it is a matter of many useful.

Yeah, I find timezone confusing from time to time (no pun intended). Most people are aware that different regions or countries have different time. But most if us are unaware how much the difference is nor do we know why time is different from country to country. So this article is really helpful to lessened our ignorance. Yes, of course .
In Indonesia alone there are 3 time zones.
in my place west indonesia at 22:30
central indonesia 23:30
and in india east at 00:30.

Damn time zones are so confusing! My girlfriend calls eastern “fast time” and central “slow time”. When we played basketball and would travel our coach would stay on eastern time zone. It was wildly confusing!

And then there are other time zones that are 15 minutes off from the the rest of the zone because of political differences. Not very helpful if you're wanting to set a time to discuss policies. ;)
