I constantly complain about bad roads in my country but after seeing these roads here... i think a few potholes are not as bad as i tought.
Lets take a look at the 5 most dangerous raods in the world.
5. Lena Highway, Russia
As you would imagine traveling through Siberia is not very easy. Most of Siberia is covered in permafrost, ground that is permanently frozen. The only road that connects the town of Yakutsk to the rest of Russia is this unpaved road that is almost not crossable during summer, only the best 4x4 vehicles are able to do it. Most of the traffic sets to move in the winter when the road freezes and hardens up for cars to pass. Yakutsk is also one of the coldest cities on earth with temperatures plummeting to -45F / -42C in winter. This road is not particularly dangerous but it's still worth mentioning.
4.Guoliang Tunnel Road, China
Located in the Taihang Mountains in the Henan province is this famous ''tunnel road'' that took five years to build. It first opened in 1977 and was originally set to serve about 300 village people. But now it has turned into a tourist attraction with tourists wanting to cross this dangerous mountain tunnel road. The road is especially dangerous in dark and wet conditions.
3. Zoji Pass, India
A pass across the Himalayas in the Jammu and Kashmir state. It's an unpaved road in the mountains with no guardrails. At an elveation of 11,575ft / 3528 meters above sea level, driving this road you must have the upmost confidence in yourself and your vehicle, one wrong move and you're in a free fall. But on a side note it has a scenic view of the snow capped mountains and strips of jungle.
2. North Yungas Road, Bolivia
One of the most famous and deadly roads in the world. Even Top Gear filmed an episode there. It's a 43 mile / 69 km stretch of road between La Paz and Coroico in the Yungas province. Recently a new highway has been built near it to direct people away from this road because an estimated 200-300 people died on this road every year. This windy jungle road crosses through mountains with vertical drops of over 3280 ft / 1000m.
1. Fairy Meadows Road, Pakistan
A 10 mile / 16 km long stretch of gravel roads in the Gilgit-Baltistan region is considered the most dangerous road in the world. It is completely unmaintained, no guardrails and extremely narrow. In fact some parts are so narrow that some cars are not able to pass. It was built a hundred years ago by the local people so that makes it a private toll road, it has not undergone any repair since its construction.
