In order to keep up with the growth I have made several changes.
Commenting
I will be testing out only commenting on photos that use 1 of the 2 hashtags for that day. This should reduce the total amount of comments going out every day. Also it will function as a confirmation that you used the correct hashtag for that day.
You will still earn XP and Upvotes for using the other tags, just no comment from the bot. In order to allow people to see their stats I will be building in a function that allows you to summon the bot anywhere and deliver your up to date stats. Something like !photocontests stats. Each user will be able to do this once a day.
Level cap
To prevent spamming of photos over a long period of time I have introduced a restriction besides XP what determines your level. For now you need at least 1 contest win to advance beyond level 1.
Upvoting in batches
Due to the amount of upvotes, around 1000 each day. The value of the votes is only about 60% of what it can be. I hope to implement upvoting in batches soon to improve overall upvote value for everyone.
Last smarthphonephotography contest
Unfortunately I was unable to retrieve the photos for this specific contest. This category gets the most submission of all the hashtags every day. Scrolling back just made my browser crash. Sorry about this, I will make sure to judge this category earlier in the future.

Basically there are 2 photography categories every day. You can join simply by using one of the tags on that given day. There are daily reminders from my main account @juliank and the selections are posted on @photocontests. You can find an overview of which categories are today at the bottom of each post

Did I misread the original photo contest instructions, or is that a change from being able to submit in any category on any day of the week? I know somebody explained somewhere that most people post the photos “on the last day” but that anything posted within the week was still counted.

The changes sound justified. There must be a whole lot of stuff that happens during a day. Any way to cut down work is a reasonable step

Is the bandwidth issue affecting comment counting as well? I've noticed that even if I make five comments and then post my photo it says "0/5" for the comments.
I'm still enjoying the contests by the way, even though it's getting more and more challenging for me to dig up good pics!

Hi @juliank I like to take macrophotography of my rocks and I wanted to use the macrophotography tag daily when I post, but it seems you have that tied with your contest. For the sake of I don't want to be accidentally seen as abusing your contest, is this allowed, or does this tag pertain to your contest only? I go over the images myself, and yes I only look at the thumbnail to decide if I will look any further.
This is just a test to see how it will work out. I think the general idea of involving wins for higher levels is valuable. However, I still have have to decide on the exact implementation

About the #smartphonephotography contest, I’m thinking perhaps it can help reduce the amount of qualified entries, if you ask participants to include also the theme in the tag each week, like #smartphonephotographypark, #smartphonephotographylight?
