The Road to WrestleMania 34 has just begun, but we already have some clarity as to what the "Showcase of the Immortals" will look like this year. WWE WrestleMania 34 is set for Sunday, April 8 in New Orleans, and the card is already stacking up to be a massive one.

WWE WrestleMania 34 Matches

Universal Championship -- Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns: This one has been coming for 365 days ever since Lesnar beat Goldberg for the title and Reigns beat The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33. Reigns won Elimination Chamber to earn the spot.

WWE Championship -- AJ Styles (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura: After winning the 30-Man Royal Rumble, Nakamura had his choice of WrestleMania opponent and immediately called out Styles as the two rekindle their rivalry from New Japan Pro-Wrestling. This should be a "smart" fan's dream, and while it is unlikely to main event the show, it may very well be the match of the evening in New Orleans.

Ronda Rousey & Kurt Angle vs. Stephanie McMahon & Triple H: Perhaps there is a reason WWE is promoting the Mixed Match Challenge so hard. This is a call-back to the WrestleMania 31 incident between Rousey and The Rock along with McMahon and Triple H but with Angle in The Rock's place. It also wraps up the Angle-Triple H storyline that started at but never progressed following Survivor Series.

Intercontinental Championship -- The Miz (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor: It looked like Braun Strowman might take on The Miz, but he appears to be otherwise occupied with a potential battle royal spot in his future. This should be a fantastic match making great use of two superstars in Rollins and Balor that have been caught without legitimate singles pushes in 2018. There should be a title change with either Rollins or Balor winding up on SmackDown at some point after WrestleMania.

Cruiserweight Championship -- TBD vs. TBD: The finals of the tournament to name a champion will be held at WrestleMania 34, likely on the kickoff show.

WWE WrestleMania 34 predictions

The following matches are all projections based on current storylines.

The Undertaker vs. John Cena: It looked like WrestleMania 33 was Taker's retirement, but he is apparently way healthier this year following a much-needed and delayed hip surgery. His confusing promo at Raw 25 notwithstanding, many seem to believe Taker is ready to go for another payday, and Cena makes the most sense -- by far -- of any potential opponent. It would be a huge addition to the card.

SmackDown Women's Championship -- Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Asuka: Flipping brands to SmackDown (hence the Royal Rumble winner stipulation added at the last minute) and continuing her undefeated streak by beating Flair would be great for Asuka. It certainly seems like WWE is going in that direction considering ...

Raw Women's Championship -- Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Nia Jax: With Asuka winning the first women's Royal Rumble, she will have her choice of opponent at WrestleMania. Though she has been on Raw and will have the choice, it is clear that WWE is building a feud between Bliss and real-life best friend Jax. They have already been on-screen frenemieis for over a year, and Bliss recently made Jax cry after yet another loss to Asuka.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship -- The Usos (c) vs. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers: It would be silly to have Usos-New Day at Fastlane and either not have a title change or not continue the top feud of the entire 2017-18 season into WrestleMania. It is clear that the Bludgeon Brothers are getting involved in this feud. Hopefully, it's as the third team in what could be an epic triple threat match as opposed to against Usos with New Day again stranded.

Sasha Banks vs. Bayley: I am of the mindset that there will be 4-5 women's matches on this card, and it is quite clear that WWE has been teasing Banks-Bayley -- one of the best NXT matches of all-time -- for the big show. It would be better if it was for a title and the hatred had a longer period of time to build, but alas, it's still an awesome match.

United States Championship -- Bobby Roode (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. Jinder Mahal: A match that should be on the kickoff show but probably will not be. There storyline is lackluster and uninteresting outside of Orton going after the only WWE singles title he has not held in his long career.

Andre the Giant battle royal: Potentially featuring Braun Strowman to get a big win around the Andre the Giant biography set to air on HBO in April. | [Insert name] women's battle royal: Maybe an addition to the card on the kickoff show.

Big-name wrestlers/teams without set or predicted matches: Strowman, Elias, Samoa Joe, Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Bray Wyatt, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, The Bar, Becky Lynch, Absolution

WWE Fastlane 2018, the unheralded pay-per-view that many are impatiently waiting to be done already, is quite possibly the most inappropriately named event in WWE history.

If "This Tuesday in Texas" aired on a Friday in Oklahoma, it would still take a backseat to the ill-advised nomenclature of WWE Fastlane 2018, which has only served to bring the build to WrestleMania 34 to a grinding halt.

Viewership for SmackDown Live was down 3.8% for the Fastlane go-home show, and it couldn't be any more painfully obvious that WWE is only moving forward with its penultimate pay-per-view before WrestleMania because it's contractually obligated to do so. Several WrestleMania matches, programs and announcements have been held hostage by a pay-per-view lineup that might as well be dubbed WWE Traffic Jam. If ever there was a time to call a pay-per-view WWE Roadblock, this is it.

WWE has opted to truncate its pay-per-view schedule and adopt a dual-branded format moving forward as the addition of pay-per-views on the WWE Network did nothing to stimulate its static subscription count which continues to stubbornly hover in the 1.5 to 1.6 million range. As a result, Fastlane exists as a fish out of water with the unnecessary pay-per-view holding up everything from the women's title picture on both shows to John Cena's seemingly inevitable clash with The Undertaker.

Asuka has been heavily rumored to take on Charlotte at WrestleMania, but that can't happen until the reigning SmackDown women's champion defends her championship against Ruby Riot. The prominent rumors in the era of information, combined with Ruby Riot's status as a rookie, give her virtually no chance to walk away with the SmackDown Women's Championship. This caveat figures to sabotage the live crowd's reaction to nearfalls and potential false finishes, let alone the match itself.

Meanwhile, on Raw, WWE has already planted the seeds for a Nia Jax-Alexa Bliss feud, which figures to ramp up once Charlotte presumably retains and is possibly confronted by Asuka herself at Fastlane.

Shinsuke Nakamura's finest moment in WWE came when he won the 2018 Royal Rumble match. And while Nakamura-Styles at WrestleMania is a dream come true for some, Nakamura has all but faded to black as he patiently waits for Styles to successfully defend the WWE Championship in a Six-Pack Challenge against Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler and a slumping John Cena.

All WWE has done, to further what is supposed to be a dream match between Nakamura and Styles, is have Nakamura tell Styles he was going to beat him at WrestleMania during a brief exchange backstage. Nakamura will have a tune-up match against Rusev, who is typically the most popular wrestler in the building at pay-per-views. If this is the case, it will further sap Nakamura of the come-and-go momentum that has defined him on the main roster.

Two weeks ago, John Cena teased a match against The Undertaker and the Honda Center went nuts. Days later, Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated reported that Rey Mysterio had emerged as the most likely opponent for Cena. Multiple pro wrestling media outlets have since contradicted Barrasso's report and all signs indicate a long-awaited matchup between Cena and Undertaker as The Phenom figures to once again rise from the dead, where Barrasso's credibility seems to have gone.

But before Cena can confront The Undertaker, he must first give yet another valiant effort as part of a mid-life crisis storyline where he feels he's in danger of missing WrestleMania. Cena did his damndest to give fans the hard sell for Fastlane this past Monday on Raw, but was M.I.A. on SmackDown Live, which had its second-highest viewership of the year last week with an average of 2.692 million viewers tuned in for his return to the blue brand.

Rousey will team up with WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle to take on on-screen RAW Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and 14-time world champion Triple H.

It was initially expected that Brock Lesnar’s Universal title defence against Roman Reigns would be the last match of the night but it seems like they won’t close the show.

John Cena’s rumoured dream match against Undertaker won’t be the main event either even though this bout, that could be Taker’s very last in-ring appearance, could turn out to be very emotional.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, as reported by Give Me Sport, Rousey’s first ever WWE match will be the grand attraction on April 8 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Rowdy is one of the greatest MMA legends of all time as she is the first ever UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion.

She is also a huge celebrity following her appearance in various blockbuster movies, such as The Expendables 3 and Furious 7.

Rousey is expected to appear on every RAW episode leading to WrestleMania and has so far managed to win the crowd.

Fans are also keen to see 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist Angle make his in-ring return at the Showcase of the Immortals.

Lesnar’s contract will expire after Mania and reports suggest he might rejoin UFC.

If The Beast decides to leave the company then WWE may be looking to downplay his exit by refusing him the top spot at the Show of Shows.

Reigns is expected to dethrone the UFC legend and will be given the chance to prove he has what it takes to become the face of the company.

WWE could use the last PPV before WrestleMania 34 to set some unexpected storylines and lay the groundwork for the return of a huge superstar.

WWE Fastlane 2018, the final pit stop on the road to WrestleMania 34 is here. While the match card and the storylines leading up to the event do not make it an unmissable event, the possibilities of some surprises that could alter the storylines going forward are worth addressing. SmackDown Live has not been comparable to RAW in the past few weeks. Fans can only hope that the superstars at the blue brand will leave a lasting impression before heading into the grandest event of the year.

WWE Fastlane 2018 rumors have already revealed that no major title change will take place at the event, as reported by the Cageside Seats. If these rumors prove to be true, then WWE officials would have to pull a few rabbits out of the hat to make the event successful. Let us look at a few surprises that could be introduced to develop a few storylines for WrestleMania 34.

Asuka Challenges Charlotte Flair

Charlotte Flair will face Ruby Riot at Fastlane 2018 and would most likely retain her title. With the outcome of the match more or less certain, it makes sense for WWE officials to spring in a few surprises. It is possible that Asuka will arrive in the ring after the match and challenge the Queen for a match at WrestleMania 34.

Asuka made history by winning the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble match. She can now challenge either the RAW or SmackDown Women’s champion in a match at WrestleMania with the title on the line. Given that the storyline on RAW hints Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax at WrestleMania, the Empress could challenge the Queen by making a surprise entrance at Fastlane 2018. Notably, Charlotte Flair has also expressed her desire to face Asuka in an interview to Hollywood Life.

Rusev’s Face Turn

Rusev who is currently portraying a heel has garnered a strong fan following despite his falling on-air time. Rusev will go against Shinsuke Nakamura at Fastlane 2018 to avenge an injury suffered by his friend Aiden English at the hands of Nakamura. It is certain that Rusev would lose the match and would fail to take revenge.

This could lead to Aiden English reacting badly to Rusev initiating a rivalry and eventual splitting of ‘Rusev Day’. Rusev is currently not a part of WrestleMania 34 despite the massive fan following. WWE officials could use this opportunity to set-up a match for Rusev at the grandest PPV of the year and turn him into a babyface.

The Undertaker Returns

The match between Undertaker and John Cena has been on the cards for quite some time. The Undertaker had supposedly retired after losing to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33. However, John Cena clarifying on RAW that his match with the Undertaker was not possible, further fueled the speculations.

John Cena will be a part of Six-Pack Challenge which will also involve AJ Styles. Shinsuke Nakamura, who won the Royal Rumble 2018 had challenged AJ Styles for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. This is also a match that is highly anticipated since the King of Strong Style arrived at WWE.

However, John Cena needs to win the match to earn a spot at WrestleMania and it is unlikely that he would lose cleanly. WWE Fastlane 2018 rumors hint that the Undertaker may sabotage John Cena’s victory, setting up a match at the grandest stage, as reported by Daily Express. Even if the deadman is not physically present, his music going off when Cena is about to pin someone would be a good start to the rivalry.
