Following Full Gear 2020 I thought it would be cool to jot down my predictions for AEW storylines going forward, and see how close I got.
There will be spoilers if you've not watched Full Gear yet, you have been warned.
First match of Full Gear saw Hangman Adam Page take on former tag partner Kenny Omega in the final of the Number One Contender Tournament. Kenny took the win, and I think he'll be the one to finally take the belt from Jon Moxley, with Hangman later taking the belt from Kenny.
The Young Bucks took on FTR for the tag belts. Given the stipulation The Bucks couldn't challenge for the belts ever again if they lost it was unlikely they'd do do, particularly since Cody Rhodes, another of the big draws, is already bound by the stipulation....and indeed they won the belts.
When FTR left WWE they mentioned in an interview they had a number of different tag teams they wanted to tick off the bucket list, one of which was The North from Impact.
At the moment AEW seem to have a working relationship with a number of other promotions, and it seems they currently have such a relationship with Impact. Don Callis, who is an EVP and commentator at Impact, has appeared twice on Dynamite in promo packages, and appeared as guest commentator during the Hangman/Omega match. So I think there's a real possibility they'll show up there in the near future.
Since the PPV FTR have both indicated on social media that they are leaving AEW. So again it's a real possibility they'll show up somewhere else, and because international travel is restricted at the moment showing up in an American promotion is more likely.
MJF defeated Chris Jericho, so now he and Wardlow are part of the Inner Circle. Given Ortiz and Sammy Guevara are already unhappy with the prospect of MJF joining the faction I envision them splintering off with Santana to form their own group.
Obviously MJF and Jericho will have round two, but I can also see Wardlow and Jake Hager coming to blows, as there was clearly animosity between the two following the match.
Lastly we come to Eddie Kingston, who lost the 'I Quit' match with Moxley. Of course there is a real possibility their feud isn't other, and Kingston indicated as much on this week's Being the Elite.
But I also see him forming a rag team with Pentagon. For the past few weeks Kingston has called Pentagon his best friend. Penta and his brother/tag partner Rey Fenix have also shown at various points they don't always get along, something particularly evident following their match against each other in the first round of the previously mentioned tournament....and as they're scheduled to have a rematch this week on Dynamite things could erupt.
So there you go, there are my future predictions. Do you you follow AEW? What's your take? Let me know in the comments below?
