A short reverie

Such a short and simple word but such a sublime meaning, it's one of my favourites. It perfectly encapsulates those moments when you're lost deep in thought, lost in a sweet daydream. Accidental escapism at its finest, at its most pure. No bright lights, or technology, no screen or voice to block out your thoughts. Nothing to paper over the cracks. Everything free as your mind streams, forgetting where you are just for a moment. Just allowing the thoughts to flow and take you wherever they want to go today. I love the way that it sounds, the French pronunciation rolling off the tongue. They do make some fantastic sounding words the French and the whole accent is a delight to listen to. It reminds me of a distant memory when I cared a little less about everything. Sipping a hot coffee in-between drags on my cigarette, watching people go by on their daily business. I like to pretend I understand them, imagining what they are talking about just from the way they look or the expressions on their face. So many strangers with so many different stories to tell. Maybe I should write something today, I think, as I watch you flicking through the newspaper. I wonder if-
