Once upon a time, there was a "someone" sitting in a colorful square that watched the sky and the great mountain situated behind an obelisk while an overwhelming solitude would corrode his soul. The heart of this one was broken because of a selfish love that had recently touched his life and his mind was tormented by the idea of losing himself because of his lost dreams.
Without prior notice appeared before her (our first "someone") a young man (our second "someone") of black hair and blue-green eyes. She had red-brown eyes of so much weeping, and her lips which had once smiled without restraint were now curved in what seemed a perpetual expression of sadness. Instead, he radiated life, there was no other way to describe it, it was almost impossible to concentrate on melancholy with it close.
-How can it be? -He began to say with an indecipherable expression in his gaze- What makes a rose weeping among coves and wilds?
Snatch from his thoughts, our first someone was impressed by that boy, it was all lines and angles, like a work of art standing in front of her, but suspicious and hesitant decided to scare away that beautiful intruder from his torment.
-I'm not in the mood for chatter. I'm neither rose nor weeping among coves, so go away.
Our second someone smiled eagerly as if it were precisely the answer he expected and then he took a seat next to him. She felt a shiver furrow her spine. That stranger behaved with too much familiarity and fluency, and this baffled her.
-Why is there so much pain in your eyes? -he asked.
-Why does the sunshine every morning and the moon Lights the night? – she responded by shifting her gaze to the ground– Some things are just like that because yes.
He nodded and turned to her.
-Do you believe in coincidences?
-I stopped believing in them.
-Why?
-Because I have more important things to think about, more important than "coincidences"-she answered with a tone of voice that revealed her fatigue- Everything happens for a reason.
-Well, then what is your reason for sitting here in the middle of a French-inspired square in a country of farewells? -he insisted.
-Find myself in a place that is but one imitation of another, in a country of mountains bathed in tears for an innumerable amount of "farewell" without return seemed to me the most suitable to allow me to reflect on all that I have lost.
-What did you lose?
-I was in love, or at least believed to be, of a man whose voice was not shaken by saying goodbye without reason leaving me with nothing...-she began to say- Wait, why am I talking about this with you? I don't even know your name.
He smiled sweetly and posed his hand on hers, a gesture that took her unprepared but still did not withdraw her hand. Her warmth comforted her and she wished to cling to that stranger. Why? Who knows? There was something about him that was different and when there was nothing left to lose, there was no reason why he wouldn't risk knowing that boy.
-Would you believe me if I tell you that I feel that I know you from someplace?
-But if we have never seen each other...
-You're wrong, I've known you all my life. Before you were born, I was already madly in love with you.
That's when she realized why that feeling of familiarity. Of course, I knew him, she had seen that face countless times in his dreams. Suddenly he understood why he desperately sought a response to his grief in the imposing Avila and the blue sky of Caracas, all due to the memory of those eyes, green and blue, alive and hopeful. A sense of joy and peace foreclosed the body. Destined to fall in love with the same man in different lives and forget it every time his body became dust until in a new time, place and moment will meet and she will remember everything.
-Why have you taken so long...? -she asked as her eyes filled with tears.
-Shh... I'm here Annie, you will not be alone -He said with a smile that made her remember how many times she had woken up kissing that smile in London, Vienna, India, Tahiti... It was at that moment that he felt for the first time in that life that he was truly alive.
This story is set in the Plaza Altamira located in Caracas Venezuela. One of the places I dare call as one of the most beautiful in my city.
