What When The Prompt Is "The Prompt"?

in writing •  6 years ago

I'm really asking myself what to write about when the prompt is "The Prompt" itself!?! That's not an easy one although it might seem to be.

But what if I'm getting all of these wrongly?! What if @mariannewest had something entirely different on her mind when releasing today's "5 Minute Freewrite" inspirational prompt for all of us?!

And then there is another question. Is it an adjective, noun or verb? Maybe I can use all of three forms of the word?! Something like...

There wouldn't be a new post on my blog today but with my prompt reaction on this latest "5 Minute Freewrite" @mariannewest's challenging prompt, and with hardly a prompt, I started to type this article what at the same time put my mind on the inexperienced yet rollercoaster of ideas that prompted me on an entirely new out of box thinking and approach!

OMG, I did it! But, did you manage to swallow this sentence/paragraph?! Oh my, oh my... 😄

However, once upon a time (it was about a year and a half ago), I have been initiated a contest that I called "CCpost Contest." It was a contest that I created inspired by Captcha. Yes, you read it right, inspired by those somewhat annoying forms or pop-ups we have to solve to prove that we are human beings, and not some robots.

The type of Captcha I was inspired with was the one when in the box you have to type one, two or more words. I started to collect those Captcha words or string of words so I would be able to use them as an inspirational prompt/title for my contestants. Although I stopped running this contest very soon, I continued to collect these Captcha, and by now I have quite a collection.

I've been following @mariannewest's "5 Minute Freewrite Challenge" from its very beginning, admiring and appreciating her devoted commitment. Sometimes, I was thinking how hard it must be not only to continue running such challenge but very likely, and at least from time to time, even to come up with the idea for the new daily prompt.

Therefore, I was thinking, to enter this challenge today with a bit out of box approach by offering Marianne 30 prompt ideas from my Captcha collection, so she wouldn't have to worry about new prompts for at least a month. Here they are.

  1. in the limelight
  2. local derby
  3. take care
  4. by the book
  5. cookie cutter
  6. queen of hearts
  7. wild and woolly
  8. jam tomorrow
  9. groundhog day
  10. pig's ear
  11. sound of sirens
  12. magical realism
  13. double time
  14. cliff-hanger
  15. cabbage borscht
  16. double crossed
  17. mom and dad
  18. in the club
  19. meat with gravy
  20. lets eat
  21. snapshot
  22. Gotham city
  23. pound cake
  24. turn signal
  25. halcyon days
  26. hear, hear
  27. filthy rich
  28. in the box

Yes, you should certainly try it. You will need just to check new daily prompts on @mariannewest's blog to post your articles around that every day new topic. It's an excellent writing exercise, but it may also help a lot when the writers block hits.

BTW - @wonderwop just posted in his comment here today's new prompt with the link. (Just saying for the easier finding.)

Never the less, thank you for stopping by and commenting, and God bless you too! 🙂

The Prompt Is "The Prompt"? it's a very catchy title and you came up with it so promptly. The Queen of Hearts prompt idea is quite a fancy one I feel.

Nice Captcha collection, @ana-maria.
