This censorship stuff from YouTube and elsewhere really annoys me. :\
I just saw another somewhat big name on my friends list(On facebook) expressing that they can't survive off their passion via YouTube, etc.
They have around 130k subscribers on YouTube and I have another guy on my friends list who also has over 100k subscribers on YouTube similarly struggling.
What do they have in common? Both share alternative information.
The people in power in these agencies, corporations, government and elsewhere are allowing certain speech to be punished or are making it happen by design.
If you talk about conspiracy theories or sensitive issues then you risk being demonetized, shadowbanned, or worse.
And the people in general sort of just sit by while this happens and don't protest it very much as our much needed journalists who talk about important things are starved while often nonsense shallow entertainment rises to the top.
Now... You could say, these are corporations they can do just about whatever they want on their platform and in the end I pretty much agree.
However, there are arguments that these top social media are in bed with government and there's a monopoly/communications rights issue and it's a bit fuzzy.
Either way the people could demand a change and they don't, that's the main point here. Some people are trying to make new platforms or raise awareness, but as usual the majority don't seem to care much.
I personally wanted and still want to do something on YouTube or elsewhere to share my info and someday be able to make a living at it, yet.. I have a lil over 300 subscribers, how the heck could I ever make it when numerous people who have over 100k subscribers can't? Would take a miracle for me, lol... :(
It's very demoralizing. The people in power have put out a message of... If you talk about conspiracy theories or sensitive but important information, you will not be able to make nearly as much money as people who cover other subjects.
That's not freedom of speech, it seems unconstitutional to me that they can censor peoples freedom of speech in such ways, though once again most people don't seem to care much.
And I didn't even mention the new COPPA they're doing now which in my opinion is further absurdity.
Just like how I made a post recently about how it appears as if people have been assassinated for trying to get a deeper truth out to the public, people are also punished in other ways like not being able to make enough money to survive off of their efforts.
We have a segment of the population that is desperately depleting their own life force trying to get important information out to the people, sacrificing so much for us... And who are sometimes possibly even being murdered.
And it seems like it largely goes unnoticed. The people in power are good at keeping their house of cards standing. But.. Maybe someday that will change? Maybe someday we will collectively wake up more and stop letting those predators continue to do this to us.
Here's a couple quotes I pulled from that thread that I thought were worth sharing.
"It's a serious problem. I know of over 30 independent journalists that have completely given up in the last month alone."
"Now we are seeing the results of the new policies. Our favorite truth seekers are all being forced to basically stop putting effort into it in order to survive."
My husband said yesterday that his YouTube feed looked like it had been "sanitized."
The big platforms are all dead, they just don't know it yet.

Yeah... My YouTube feed is similar. It's hard to even find some conspiracy stuff if I know it by name. Pretty shady stuff going on. And.. I like what you said at the end there, I hope you are right! I hope this is a sign of their eventual demise as more free alternatives rise up.

At some point there will have to be a united effort by those sharing similar messages that are being censored to create their own platform. It's telling that those who claim to be leaders in those idea movements haven't created said platforms already. Based on the split in the nation, there is an eager audience so making their money back wouldn't be the problem. Seems to me the problem is there are no real leaders on certain sides of the issues that aren't beholden to those who would shut down certain aspects on issues.

I think there are numerous different attempts at this already including steemit itself. Just none of them have hit mainstream attention yet and the mainstream average user doesn't seem to care too much so they keep feeding into the current system and giving life to it. And I do think money is an issue, to be able to host free file sharing for everyone is very expensive and one reason sites like dtube and others have struggled. YouTube and Facebook and others are usually funded by intelligence agencies and government at least partly and they don't really have the same fears of not having enough resources. We do have some wealthy people in the liberty movement though you'd think we could do better.
And yes I do think there is a lack of leadership for sure.

One of the issues I see for Steem is it really isn't geared for the censorship resistant aspects. I know it's said that downvotes aren't censorship, but when they have the ability to grey out posts, and if an account receives enough downvotes their posts/comments are no longer visible, it makes what is acceptable subject to the whims of large accounts (as is evidenced here).
The fact is, the nation is divided almost evenly. But one half is given the nod by the power players with the other half scripted to be censored. If the power really is with the masses, then all that is lacking is the channel/tunnel to focus those masses. This seems a clear indication for sure that everything is being scripted.
I have a bad feeling the coming year will see an erosion of rights unparalleled in the U.S. Notice all the constant updates lately to virtually everyones TOS and privacy policies. Many involving an agreement that they will be freer to share your information. Many involving more recording of ones every action. The end game is fast approaching, it seems to me. The cattle are being rounded up.
