Happy birthday to me!

To tell you the truth, I stopped paying much attention to holidays - especially the "official ones". I do enjoy celebrating, but not in common ways, and I try to stay away from commercial and promotional aspects of any holiday. I don't like the way these celebrations become system's tools of manipulation and consumerism.

Yes, for some people - even birthdays. I suspect that many of us don't even stop to think WHAT exactly is going on and what is being celebrated. I watch people running around getting presents, getting food, getting reservations at places to have parties in... Sometimes I see people going as far as inviting a bunch of strangers to their parties. People they are not close with. People who don't care about each other and will forget that the person exists for another entire year... until the next invitation.

How robotic and senseless.

But I believe that some "holidays" can and should be celebrated. Not officially, not like they tell us to celebrate them, but in our own, PERSONAL ways. For example, a person's birthday.

A birth of a human being in this world, in this physical form is a miracle in itself. Think of the moment your child was born if you have a child. It's amazing. Every child is unique, one of a kind. ONE special soul, one specific energy, something THAT WILL NEVER BE COPIED AND REPEATED in any of the existing worlds.

I also believe that every day when we are alive should be celebrated. And every moment. NO matter how hard things get, what situations we go through, or what feelings and difficulties we have, BEING ALIVE and continuing to live, perceive, and act is also a miracle in itself. Most of the time we forget about that because we get tired and numb... because there are so many influences and pressures affecting us all the time.

It's important to remember about Life as we live it. It's important to recognize being alive and staying alive, not just existing. Not just on your birthday, but every day.

Also, some of you who are interested in esoteric stuff, religious studies, and philosophy, may have heard something along these lines: not every one who lives in this world has been born. That is, not all the people who we think are alive, have truly been born as Humans. The fact of a physical birth (coming out physically out of the mother's womb) does not guarantee actual Birth of a human being. Yes, it seems to be a philosophical thing, but not really... Sometimes it takes YEARS for a human being to be truly born after his or her appearance in the world. And sometimes it never happens.

Congratulations on surviving another highly unlikely orbit around a burning star.

I agree with your statements around every single moment being special. Every single one should be celebrated.

I do agree with you on keeping celebrations small and meaningful...
As for the time a person can be truly said to have been born, that's a tricky question... makes me wonder if who I am today is the last variant of myself?
